Esme and Missy say hi
Hi, all!
I'm Missy...the hairy little baked potato, as I call her, is Esme. (edit: wanted to share a photo here but it's saying denied, possibly because I'm new?)
She's a 1 year, 8 month old Syrian, and I never fully understood why Syrians were affectionately called 'teddy bear hamsters' till I met Ez. She's such a cuddly little bear
I've kept rodents since I was 10 years old - my first was a Chinese Dwarf named Bubbles who remains my longest living small furry to date...he was nearly 4 when he passed, a proper little old gentleman. I've since had the pleasure of owning 11 gerbils and 2 more hamsters over the years...and then I met this little beauty at a rescue shelter in December 2015. Love at first sight!
Sadly I join here under less than cheery circumstances...I believe Esme to have a pyometra, and after a course of Baytril has failed to stop it, I'll be taking her to the vets this week and hopefully looking into getting her an op to cure it. I hoped to find info and strength from you guys.
Please wish her well, she's my baby thanks for having us!

Re: Esme and Missy say hi
Hi Missy and welcome to HC.
Sorry to hear Esme may have pyometra, your vet should be able to advise you on your next step, there's an op that can be done but like any op there's risks. They do say the younger your ham is the better chance at recovery. Be sure to speak to your vet about it.
