Hello from Oxford
Hi,
Just thought I'd introduce myself - I live in Oxford with my husband and one Syrian hamster. She's new, bought after our first one was put to sleep a month ago. My husband and I are relatively new to hamsters - our first was his first pet, and my only experience with them was limited to my younger brother's two twenty years ago. Since getting our first I have become a massive hamster fan and am looking forward to joining in on this forum, having read lots of posts in the past but never signed up.
In my non-hamster time I am a Speech and Language Therapist who likes to knit. My husband is a planetary scientist.

Re: Hello from Oxford
Hi and welcome to the forum
You sound rather like us - I'm a first time hamster owner (unless you count the Russian Dwarf when I was a small child!) though my partner had them as a teen.
I didn't quite realise how much personality they have and how much having a hamster would enrich my life - they're fab
I've learned so much here too - it's always surprising how much there is to learn about them!

Hiya
Also an Oxfordian right here
I have one little dwarf hamster named Margot- who is my first dwarf, but have lots of experience with Syrians
Hope you find this place as useful as I have in discovering how different Syrians and dwarfs are

Re: Hello from Oxford
Thank you everyone! I'm looking forward to getting to know some hamster people.
I've attached two photos - the golden and white hamster is Éowyn, who we got two days ago. We're still getting to know her and she's quite bitey at the moment, but we're hoping she'll get used to us in time. In the meantime, she's very entertaining to watch while she's in her cage!
The sable and white hamster is d'Artagnan, who was put to sleep on 3rd December 2016. He was perfect and we miss him lots. As he was our first, we're finding it interesting to compare the two hamsters and see what are hamster traits and what are individual personality traits. I've read that female Syrians are quite different from males, so that's interesting too.
No experience of other types of hamster, but maybe when we have more space.

Re: Hello from Oxford
Eowyn is beautiful! Her being bitey might be she's still a bit nervous! Have you tried the tissue trick? Stuff a load of toilet paper up your sleeve and leave for a couple of hours then put in her cage, curiosity will have her sniffing it, this gets her familiar with your scent. Do this for about a week.
d'Artagnan was very beautiful!
