Hi from Brett
Hi All
We have two Campbell's Russian dwarf hamsters female, they have been together for eleven months sleeping together and getting on fine, but one has just started trying to claw its way underneath the other one and generally clawing all over her, she does not seem stressed over the actions of her sister but it does look a bit aggressive, please help

Re: Hi from Brett
Hi Brett
Welcome to HC.
To me it sounds like you have to separate your campbells immediately. That it has been problem free for them to be in the same cage until now, doesn't mean that it will continue.
You need to really take care with aggression as hamsters can (an often will) fight to death.
I am sorry if this sounds a bit strong, but it really important that if you see signs of fight, that you are very carefull. Also if you separate them you can't put them back in the same cage again. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.
Hope all goes fine

Re: Hi from Brett
Chiela is actually correct!
At some point it most likely will go very bad,and the end result of that could even be a dead hamster or two dead hamsters. It's actually very common for pairs to fall out,and no matter how many precautions you take that risk will always be there.

Re: Hi from Brett
Hi Brett,
It's time to separate them and now! If this carries on the injuries could worsen.
The one that's being picked on will benefit from having her own space and her confidence will grow.

Hi Brett, welcome to HC
As everyone else has said, the hamsters need to be separated. Have you got a spare cage?
Good luck!

Re: Hi from Brett
Hi Brett, welcome to HC.
It's unfortunate but this does often happen at some point in a pairs lives they will suddenly fall out or one will become more dominant & territorial.
Better to separate them if this continues before it escalates as the less dominant one could become badly hurt or worse & they will live very happily alone in their own cages.

Yes, do separate your hamsters' immediately, which cage are they in now and have you got a spare cage?
