Hi We have a new hammy
Hi. I'm Elaine from Glasgow. Myself and my daughter got our new wee girl Ginger on Wednesday and she's settling in really well. She is already coming out her door and has been held every day since Thursday. Its my daughter's first hamster although I had 3 when I was a teenager. The only problem is I think she is peeing in her bed. I noticed it smelled so I took a bit of the bedding out and placed some in a ceramic dish with some potty litta so we'll see how it goes. I love this website and have been lurking around since Thursday reading all the posts lol.

Congratulations on your new hamster. She should soon learn to use the potty. Syrians usually pee in a chosen corner.

I'm pretty sure the potty litta would be clay based if it is the one that is actually a litter for small pets  If so,it would be unsafe to use and chinchilla bath sand or children's play sand would be better!
On the note of peeing in the bed,try a larger labyrinth style hideout.You can probably make one using cardboard boxes or wood and it should be very easy,but that way there could also be a designated potty inside the hideout.Plastic ones are very bad if they get peed in since they aren't breathable,but wood and cardboard is very good for that and would therefore be better on the respiratory system if you already use a plastic hideout
