Hello from Toby and myself.
Nice to meet you all.
We have joined this lovely forum in to pursuit of gaining more knowledge and understanding of hamsters.
My son Toby recently lost his little hammy friend Roady to age last week. He's only 4 so understanding that things die of old age isn't something he understands well, but understands when things die they go to a special place (well thats what I like to think anyway).
Though he was sad he took it very well, but now wants to a new hammy friend. Our last one was a Chinese Dwarf hamster, though very friendly and good to handly I just felt he was to small for my son.
When I was a child I had a Syrian called Rolo and she was much more easier to handle.
So my pursuit is to find out which hamster would be most suitable, then take it from there.
Sorry if this doesn't come across as a Introduction. But any advice/suggestoins would be most welcome
Thank you for taking the time to read this and look forward to getting to know the rest of you

Re: Hello from Toby and myself.
Hi and welcome to HC.
Why don't you get your son a syrian this time?
Dwarf hams can be super fast.

Re: Hello from Toby and myself.
Hi & welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your little boy's ham, it's always very hard & sad but even more so having to try to explain things to a child that age.
You would need to upgrade everything to much bigger sizes, cage, wheel etc for a syrian but I agree that a syrian would be much easier for your son to interact with & enjoy.

Re: Hello from Toby and myself.
Welcome to the forum, so glad you could join! : )
I'm sorry to hear about Roady. It sounds like you guys gave him a good life.
I agree, getting a syrian would be a good idea and a lot of fun too. They come in so many different colors and personalities, make sure to choose a friendly, calm one.
Best of luck! : )
