Default Central Scotland hoping to rehome

Hello everyone ☺

I'm Donna and I live in Central Scotland. I have been a member for many years but not had a hamster for quite a few years now.

I would like to get another hamster now so I am looking to see if I can rehome one.

It's Syrian hamsters I have had in the past and I'd like a Syrian if possible.

I'd also be interested in a cage or accessories if anyone is selling close to me. I'm near Edinburgh.

Thanks for reading, I'm away to browse and catch up on what I have missed.

Good luck and good on you for finding one to rehome or adopt. P@h have a few that you can view on 'support adoption for pets' and are collected from your local p@h. These are normally hams that are about 10 weeks old and too old to sell as they weren't purchased in the younger weeks. I don't know what happens if they aren't adopted after this period and I wouldn't like to. My current ham is from the support adoption for pets and she's fantastic.

As for cages or tanks I'd highly recommend the detolf cabinet that can be converted (check erinshamsters on YouTube) into a huge habitat. It's from ikea and it is amazing value. Just 40 pounds and worth every penny Imo.

Welcome. How long is it since you had a hamster?

Thanks for the tip, I will check out the adoption site. I love the detolf idea, unfortunately I just gave away this exact cabinet on Gumtree a few weeks ago after decorating ☺ will probably look to get one again though as I love the space they offer.

Hello, I think it's been around 5 years now. I got my first hamster when I was 12 after begging for one for years and had them most of my life upto the past 5 years due to a change in house and job etc.

Gumtree or other second hand sale apps/websites are good places to buy a cage. Zoo plus have some nice Syrian suitable cages (80 cm x 50cm and 100cm x 50cm). Syrians need large accessories which fill up a cage really quickly.

Have a look at the cages threads here and find a cage you like, then see if you can find a second hand one or one that is on sale cheap.

Well a lot has changed since my last post. I went to P@h and found a lovely boy in the adoption section . He was called Ginge but is now called Frank. I bought a cheap cage from my local charity shop to start me off. I kept browsing gumtree and picked up a white detolf glass unit yesterday for £15 and went to Ikea and got the kallax cube shelfs to sit it on. I need to build a lid now and get some natural type toys. I have picked up a stone looking hide which was in the reptile section . And some chinchilla sand. I'm away to check some posts now on the best way to fill the detolf.
