Hello! I'm Milla, a Syrian hamster owner, introducing myself to everybody.
Help!! This is my first time having a little hamster pal,as she's so tiny I'm concerned am I doing too much or too little for her!! Her name is Tilly, she's a Syrian Hampster approx one year old,we got her last mid-Feb 2015.
I feed her the recommended Hamster food plus a bit of fresh broccoli, fresh broad beans, a tiny bit of hard cheese, a peanut, one grape cut in half. I try to vary her menu. She's very clever and hides half behind her bed. I tried making her comfortable with the sawdust the pet shop suggests but she slept in her wheel instead. So I thought that wasn't comfortable so I took an extra ball she runs around the flat in half, put a comfy baby towel in it and that's been her bed ever since. I've had a lot of pets in my life but I haven't had one as smart as her,is it just her? or the breed? I only have to say no once and she knows what it means, she knows,it's Ok, and Sorry! I let her explore most of my flat,90% except behind the oven,up inside it!! Took 3 days to find her!! Once she's up inside I don't know if she can hurt herself or not so that's the only No Go,which she wont give up!
I'm aware they don't live long, which I dread,so I'm aware her age is coming fast and want her comfy!! Ie the cages I've seen to me arenot designed for the little Hampsters needs at all!! I never lock her cage which is near my bed so she comes to check on me nightly!! If there's anyone that can make or know where to get a easy access in/out little cute house for my much loved little pal please I'm happy to listen to ideas advice on feeding her, homes to find that don't cost a fortune!! ETC!!!
I look forward to other fellow Hammy friends as well!!!
Sincerely Camilla

There are a lot of cheap options for toys - toilet roll tubes (but not kitchen roll tubes as they are too small!), egg boxes, cereal boxes with holes cut in etc ... Not sure about houses but you can probably make one

Hi & welcome to the forum
What part of the world are you in? If you let us know your location it's easier to give advice on cages etc that would be good for your ham.
