Smile Evening all!

Hi all!
Im Bex, 28 years old and am in the Norfolk area.
I live with 4 housemates, my boyfriend, 2 Dogs and a Hamster!
The Dogs belong to a housemate and are a little overwhelming for new people coming into the house and aren't very good with other Dogs/Cats coming into their territory.
I have grown up with Rabbits, Guinea-Pigs, Hamsters and lots of Cats so to move into a home and not have my own pet was getting unbearable!
I'd love to have a Dog but we can't trust our current Dogs. I'd love to have a Cat but that would be even worse!!! Of course Rabbits/Guinea-pigs would also be out of the question as the Dogs are often in the garden and also sleep in my room a lot and wouldn't get along with other furry creatures!
BUT, my housemate Mel has a Syrian Hamster named Latoya. We often pop her into her ball for a run around and the Dogs don't seem phased and just ignore it! So my boyfriend and I finally found a pet we could call our own
So now we have 2 adorable Hamsters!

Years ago, I worked in a Pet shop selling all sorts of furry and scaly creatures. I did learn a lot about Hamsters during my time there but as the years went by, working elsewhere, I've forgotten most of what I knew!
I have joined Hamster Central as I have a few questions and you guys seem to be the ones to ask

It's great to join this community and I hope you all have fun answering my random questions :P

Love and Light! xXx

Hi, welcome to HC Most of what you learnt about hamsters when you worked in a pet shop will be out of date now as hamster care is constantly evolving so no worries about not remembering it

The dogs may not seem phased by the hamster but it can be be very stressful for a hamster to be around dogs. Even with well trained dogs accidents happen so I really wouldn't let the two meet.

Looking forward to learning more about your two hamsters

Hi & welcome to the forum
Look forward to hearing more about the hams!

Good advice from velma, I would take care to keep the hams & dog separate at all times, less stress all round & no chance of an unhappy accident that way.

Hello and welcome! This is a nice friendly forum so ask away. I would also say that things have moved on a lot in the last decade or so of hamster care My tip would be on cage cleaning - I found this video really helpful! Our hamster doesn't stress about cage cleans any more now I follow Erin's method, but he uses a potty and is very clean too. Sorry if you already know about that already!

Hello Bexi and welcome to HC, good advice from Velma, best to keep the dogs and hamster separated as it causes less stress for all concerned
