Hello
Hi. My name is Steph and I'm from Edinburgh. I am the new owner of a long-haired Syrian hamster called Coco. I have never had a hamster before, so i'm a big worrier of course.

Re: Hello
Hi & welcome to HC
Look forward to seeing some photos of Coco!
It's only natural to worry about getting things right for your ham, it's part of caring for them but if you're unsure about anything you should find the answers here so if in doubt just ask!

Re: Hello
Hello and welcome - join the worriers lol! You stop being so worried after a while when you get used to handling them although I still worry now and then lol. Looking forward to seeing photos! All he needs is a decent sized cage, plenty of deep substrate/litter and lots of torn up toilet paper to make a nest with, a house of some sort, water, food and a cardboard tube or similar toy and he'll pretty much sort himself out! They tend to choose one corner to wee in so putting a potty tray there can be a good idea. The main thing is cage safety - no high drops or unsuitable toys with small openings or sharp edges. Is he tame?

Re: Hello
Well I don't think I'll be worrying for too long now. Thanks for the nice welcome. I will definitely be posting pictures of Coco, if she ever sits still long enough, lol. And I think she's getting tamer now. I had some difficulty at first, but I've read through some threads here already and its been a great help. Of course there's still some things that I'm having issues with, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.
