My hamster is slepping a lot
Hi guys sorry I haven't been doing much on this, mainly just due to family issues but it's all sorted now so ya!
I just wanted to ask for some advice, Richard my male Syrian hamster seemed to be sleeping a lot more often than usual, I've asked my mum and she just says that he's confused because the days are getting shorter and all that but I don't believe that at all. So he wakes up maybe at 9ish and then plays around a bit in his cage goes on his wheel like a normal hamster at his age would do. But then normally on his wheel he would fall asleep, but not only that he then moves into his nest to sleep. It's not cold in our house it's room temperature and when I pick him up to see if anything obvious is on that might be causing the problem hes nice and warm. Im just a bit nervous if it's an internal problem.
Thanks and if you have any advise PLEASE let me know!!!!!

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
How old is he? If he's an older ham it's perfectly normal for them to sleep more

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
Hello Richard01. Hamsters can, and do, change their sleeping habits now and then. Seasonal changes can do it. Depending on how old your hammy is, it can be the weather or just a slowing down as they get older. As long as he still goes on his wheel, eats and drinks, poos and pees okay, don't worry. If you feel that his behavior is really different you can have a vet check him over. Give it a little time and see how he does.

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
Hi Richard,
Hamster's habits do change as they get older.
All my hamsters habits have changed when winter arrives and the clocks change, they sleep a lot more and play less, also some tend to eat more and hoard more.

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
I'll second what everyone said....with winter and temp fluctuations, and shorter days, and age, Ziggy is spending an insane amount of time in his nest. But when he's out and about ? he's fine. I can usually get him to poke his head out of the nest to take treats, and say hello if I get worried......
He's about a year old now, give or take.....

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
Could be the season, Pocky Is only around 5months so he's still pretty young, he's stayed in his nest more since I've put s tissue box in for him as a den. I often get worried and check on him but he's just sitting all cosy in his bed, sometimes not even asleep. He goes on his wheel and comes out still, just not as much as he has previously.

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
I do find the nicer the nest they make , the more they like to stay in it......eating crackers in bed probably and reading comic books....

Re: My hamster is slepping a lot
He's only about 8 months turning 9 months, he still eats, sleeps and goes to the toilet. He probably spends about I dunno 15 -20 mins awake when I'm awake but then falls asleep on his wheel. I managed to check him today and he seems fine no clicking noises or finding it hard to breathe. God im such a worried person some times! But thanks guys!
