Default New... I need HELP! Possibly dying hammy

Hello everyone, i have just joined about 2 minutes ago.
I'm in need of some help asap... My short haired syrian hamster seems to be dying or very ill. She is roughly a year old.She started limping last night and wasnt eating or drinking water, and then after a while she didnt move at all and just was closing her eyes, and in the same spot until the morning. I then picked her up and checked if she was still alive, which she was. I feel really terrible... How can i let her go on like this? She has yet to open her eyes, and she just trembles and tries playing in her cage but seems to stagger and keeps falling over. I held her for about little over an hour to keep her warm since she was very cold. I feel like she is suffering and I am only making it worse... I put a blanket over her cage and closed the windows. I need help... Any advice would help please, I don't know what to do. I don't want her to suffer any longer. For reference, she started getting a very hunched back and the fur on her back started looking a bit greasy, and she is breathing heavily and irregulary.

It does sound like strokes or something similar. First thing is to call a vet. See if she can be seen ASAP. It is possible though, when a major illness hits, it hits fast and all we can do is keep them comfortable. Water and soft foods near where she is lying, keeping the room warm....keep us posted!

As Skeever said, I would call a vet ASAP. That's the best way to help her. Find out if she can be treated first and foremost. Good luck!

Hello, unfortunatley my hamster passed away. I was with her the most time I could have been, I held her for over and hour and waited until she passed. She did not pass until I left at noon. I came home at 2:00 rushing to my room only to find that my hamster was freezing cold and completley still. I'm not going to lie, I have been crying all day. My mom told me that right when I left she took her last breath. She told me she waited until I left so I wouldn't have had to witness her death. I don't know how I would have felt if she died in ny hands, which i was actually planning on. I set a proper burial for my hamster after I said my goodbyes. On to a better place Sharkeisha... You will be missed a lot.

Hi yazz, so sorry for your loss. I shed a tear for Sharkeisha as I read your last post. I'm glad she knew you were with her and she obviously knew that you loved her very much.

Sending hugs to you from me, Bracken, Rue, Bindle & Aspen. Play happily and healthily at the Bridge little Sharkeisha.
