Default So excited to be here!

Hello everyone!

My name is AshCat, I am from the United States and am very excited to get back into keeping hamsters. I kept them as a child (10 - 14 years old) but regrettably did not meet other keepers to learn about them. I kept to my published books and learned as much as I could with what I had. I am hoping to get a new hamster in one or two weeks, and am thinking about getting a Syrian as I want a hamster who is sociable, but do not feel comfortable with a diabetic prone hamster at this point.

I have no pictures of my old hamsters (I kept them about 2 BC. Before Cellphone), but I remember them very well! My first hamster was an albino (dwarf I believe?) named Daisy. My neighbor got a petstore hamster and it had a litter, so I got her as a baby. My second hamster was a white and tan syrian who had similar markings to the popular Hamtaro character. He was the nicest ham I ever had, and I still miss him almost eight years after his death. My third hamster was named Jasper, a Campbell and Winter White mix. I was never able to socialize him and needed gloves often. But I loved him a lot and his favorite thing to do was run in his ball around my room.

I've been reading the forum for a week after being recruited by youtubers, and the community seems incredibly friendly! I'm excited to learn more about hamsters and to make friends with fellow keepers.

Welcome! Sounds like you know a lot already and that's great. There are a few members around where you are. Sadly, North America has not embraced the love of hamsters to the same extent as our friends across the pond!

Best of luck finding a new friend, and be sure to send us pictures!

Thanks a bunch! I think one of my favorite things about pet care is that one answer leads to three new questions! I wish N. America was more interested in small pet care. I've been looking at cages for two weeks and finally found one that was appropriately sized... .... marketed for Rabbits. Hopefully those of us that do their homework can lead by example.

Hi Ashcat and welcome to HC, I'm glad that you found your way here and through YouTube. You must be really excited about having hamsters again. I look forward to seeing some photos in due course.
