Default Sort-of newbie!

As the title suggests, I am new to Hamster Central, but not hamsters. I *think* all of my hamster care is correct, but the more knowledge the better! I am currently the owner of three wonderful Roborovski hamsters: Tulip, the year and a half old agouti, Zhiva, her 1 year old agouti daughter, and Valentine, the 8 month old recessive pied. The pair live in an Ikea detolf, and Valentine lives in a 40 gallon breeder tank. Is this big enough? I thought it was, but I recently had a member of another hamster forum tell me I needed at least 750 square inches.

Welcome to HC.

The IKEA Detolf is more than big enough. The tank is larger than a minimum of 360 sq inches. The tank may be a little small depending on how active your ham is. Well, not small, but if your ham is very active, they might benefit from more room

Edit: got my dimensions mixed up. The breeder tank is a great size

Welcome to the forum I've never heard the 750 square inches thing but to be honest I've given up on reccomendations... Everyone says something different and it drives me slightly crazy trying to keep up with which reccomendation is the fashionable one at the moment, forget which might actually be right lol
Different things work for different hamsters, a 40 gallon tank sounds great for a ham to me

Thank you for all the quick replies! I'd like to eventually upgrade and make a big DIY cage of sorts, but for now I'll have to stick to what I've got. It seems that 589 square inches is the preferred minimum in the US now, but I honestly think it just depends on the individual hamster.
