Hello everyone! I have been coming to the forum for about a month now. I felt like I should stop spying on your cute little hammies and make myself official. I had tons of hamsters growing up, more than I could ever keep track of. My parents breed hamsters for the local petshops in the 80's. I couldn't imagine a childhood without those furry little friends. Now as an adult with three children I wanted them to have the childhood experience of owning a pet hamster. My husband and I brought three female Syrian hamsters in December for the kids. The kids promptly named them Bella, Slasher, and Reece. The girls joined our family of five humans, one miniature dachshund(Copper), one grumpy cat(Oscar), and two snails(Leo and Turbo). I had forgotten how much I enjoyed hamsters. I have found so much information here to feed my hamster obsession

Thank you! I imagine we are a funny looking group. My oldest daughter (15) is the owner of the cat and snails. Although I am primary caretaker!

Update! I now have four hamsters. I saw a Craig's list posting of a free teddy bear hamster with cage to a good home. I messaged them asking details (age, sex, name, etc). I received back a message that said, " male, don't know". We arranged to meet. He said, they bought the hamster for a niece and the mother decided she wasn't up for the responsibility. So they gave the hamster back. He said, he considered feeding it to his snake!!! So for age he said the niece had him a couple months and they then had him a couple months. No name but they sometimes call him fluffy butt.
Poor Hammie! We've had him for three days now. I was surprised by his size. He's larger than all three of my females. He's very friendly, climbs right into your hand to come out of the cage. I haven't any experience with males. I have so far kept him in a different room than my girls. He appears healthy. I've looked him over and checked his teeth.

Aww what a cutie! Good thing you rescued him. I understand about the zoo! I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 guinea pigs, 4 hamsters, and assorted fish!

All my boys have been such snugglers. Congratulations to your many new additions. When you decided to get back into hamsters, you jumped in!
