So I've been lurking here a while and thought it was finally time to introduce myself. Its going to be a long one so go grab a cup of coffee and put your feet up, LOL.
My name is Brandy and I am a Mom to 3 AMAZING boys. Dakin, Corbin and Tysin. I was a stay at home Mom for many years and to make ends meet I ran a daycare in my own home. Ive always loved pets, I have dogs, cats, parrots, reptiles, a rabbit and fish. A few years back the boys wanted a hamster for a grading present, so we got a little black one for them and named him Dribble. Dakin loved him especially and eventually Dribble became Dakin's. We knew the basic hamster care. Cage, food, wheel.
Dakin was rather young so I was constantly at him reminding him to feed/water/play, etc. Dribble eventually passed away and I said no more hamsters (ya right).
So fast forward to now and a few things changed and it was time for some decisions so I gave up my daycare and I wanted a job! I wanted to be out and about and doing something I loved, so where did I end up? The local pet store of course! Its a small locally owned Ma and Pa type pet store, and I LOVE it. Our cats are all SPCA cats, we don't sell dogs. Its a decent place. However we do have small birds, hamsters and fish. Im big on message boards, Im on a parrot message board and my husband is on fish message boards so when I want to learn something, a message board is the place for me to go!
I fell in love with a hamster at work and he just wasn't selling. A beautiful little black hamster with the softest, shiniest, silkiest coat. I realized I wanted to learn as much about hamsters as possible. So I found you guys and started creeping. I was talking about hamsters so much that all of a sudden my son Corbin came to me and told me all he wanted for his birthday was a hamster. So guess who came home with me? Yup, the most gorgeous hamster ever and his new name is Cub. (A baby black bear haha).
Then my boss seen how much we loved Cub so she offered us her hamster. She went into work one morning and seen a hamster had given birth, later on that day she realized she ate all the babies except 3. She went to go grab a box to "rescue" the other babies and by the time she got back there was only one left so she took it! She took it home and somehow or other she rasied this little pink baby into what he is now which is a year old black bear hamster with the funniest look to him ever!
His coat is funny. His eyes are funny and his ears are very funny. But hes alive and well and my sons named him Cookie.
So Cub and Cookie are our hamster family and we couldn't be happier.
Im so glad to be here and I am learning so much. It means a lot that I can give correct info to potential customers and I try to provide the best care I can for the ones at my work plus home.
