HC has been the best thing ever. I prefer it over my Facebook! It's more than just the technical hammy info. After a while you get to know all the hams and their persons . You know that Jeffro will stuff himself silly if he can get to the treat drawer; you know when another Pompompoms litter is due, it's time for major cute; You wait to see who has made a great new hamster home and who has created a fantastic new toy for a lucky ham. Cheering for a new hammy who's been rescued from an awful situation and a new baby ham who captured an HC members heart. It is a real family of hams and their people.

Hello Humfry & welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I can't directly help look after your hamster while you are away (I'm in s wales!). If you are unable to find another hamster owner to co-ordinate holidays with perhaps you could find a local boarding service or pet sitter who could do it for you? I know it would be an additional expense, but it may be an option. I've seen ads for 'hamster boarding' on preloved, though I can't vouch for their service of course. Or maybe enquire at your local vets & they may be able to recommend someone.

Thanks Scoobysue - asking at the vet is a good idea. I do have one friend who will hamster sit, but she is away a lot for short breaks. I have told her that if I am away for two weeks & she happens to be away one of the weekends that hammy can be left a night or two with a good supply of water/food & will come to no harm but I can tell she is a little wary of this! As any hammy I get will be living in a single adult household I would not want to leave it with anyone I know who has children or large pets.

The pet sitter company I use for my cats also tends to other animals as well and looks after Penny my Syrian.
