Thanks for the welcome and they are all syrian hamsters. I had my first hamsters when I was about 16 and after I got married my husband let me get one and now I have the 12 until the babies go to new homes. The babies will be six weeks old this Sunday. One of the little girl babies got hurt last night though, I am not sure how but she broke her leg. I could not afford to take her to the vet but I found a vet in town and I gave them ownership of her and they are going to see if they can fix her leg. If not they will be putting her to sleep. I just hope they can help her and find her a new home. I will post some pictures of all the hamsters and babies later tonight.

Awww hope she can be saved, legs often heal okay and even if she loses it I have had hamsters live happy full lives with only three. You did the responsible thing taking her to the vet. Look forward to seeing the pictures.

Thanks, I hope so too. The break looks pretty bad, her little foot was just dangling and she had a bone sticking out of her leg area. That was my main reason for taking her cause she had to have been in so much pain with the way it broke. I think she must have caught it on something in her cage. I just hope they can save her even if it means living with only three legs. I am calling the vet clinic tomorrow to see what happened with her, the nurse was going to read up on some stuff with hamsters and leg injuries to see what they can do for her.

Is it a front or bag leg which has been broken?

It is her back leg that is broken, I talked to the woman Jeannie at the vet's today and she said the baby escaped from the kennel last night and was running all over the clinic. They are not going to put her to sleep, they are going to monitor her and if the leg does not fall off or get chewed off they will remove it. Jeannie said she read it in a book that sometimes the hamster will remove the leg by themselves. It is an emergency vet clinic so at least a doctor is always there. Jeannie may even take her home or give her to her sister.
Thanks for the welcome, I hope to get to know everyone better and I am going to post the pictures of my hamsters now. I got too wrapped up while playing the sims 2 last night.
