Smile Old but New from Dresden,Ont. Canada

Hi all..great forum..have been lurking here for a bit and picked up lots of great info!
When I was younger I always had hamsters; they were all Syrian hamsters(didn't know that then) and we kept them in every kind of cage known to man, including homemade wooden cages that they destroyed in a hurry. Over the years I got busy with life and hamster were but a memory. A while back, however, I saw some Dwarf hamsters and I just had to have one!

Now, I just acquired a Russian Dwarf hamster, more accurately she's probably a Campbell hybrid; anyhow I picked out a young female that was friendly, healthy and unafraid, even in the less than awesome conditions in the pet shop. We call her Maxine, Maxi for short and she is already tame after only a week or so.

The only problem I had was that we have a cat and a dog and the cat would not leave the wire cage alone; so, she is now in a 10 gallon aquarium with a well-ventilated but heavy metal top and everyone gets along just fine.

I'll try and post some pics when I get a chance, but until then a big general thanks to all the folks who posted all the great advice on this forum!

Welcome to HC!

Would be great to see pics of your little hammy, it's great you've solved your little cat/dog/hamster issue! I am sure she is enjoying her tank.
