Default Ham-Hi

Hi, I just joined and looking forward to posting on the boards. I am 19, a sophomore at Virginia Tech, and the proud owner of a black Syrian named Noku.

Default Welcome Roopal and Noku

Nice to meet you - what does a sophomore mean? I never understood the American school system Hope to see a picture of Noku soon - lovely name - very unusual - does it mean anything in particular?

Hey

A quick guide to the American educational system. A freshman is a first year (or 9th grader in high school), a sophomore is a second year (10th grade), juniors are 3rd years (11th grade) and seniors are 4th years (12th grade). These designations are used for both high school and university, so roopal is a 2nd year at university.

Default Grades

How does that compare to our grades here in Scotland Rhian is a 11th Grader at USA High School like a 5th Year here at a Comprehensive High School?

Hi babyboos,

Yes, a 9th grader is like a 3rd year at high school, 10th grader like a 4th year, 11th grader is a 5th year and a 12th grader is a sixth year. People usually leave high school when they're 18, so they're a little older than most of our school leavers (in Scotland). I was nearly 19 when I graduated, but that's just because of when my birthday falls.
