Hello

[Matthias]

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mary and Matthias is my new dominat spot hamster. I bought him alittle more than a week ago from a Petsmart. Hes actually mostly black with little spotting but I think hes beautiful just the same.

I got my first hmaster when I was 18 ( I had had gerbils before that) a beautiful long haired satin peach colored hammie that I named Hannah. Well Hannah turned out to be a Hans the sweetest hamster ever born, he would actually follow me all over the house and came when I called him. I was very sad when he died at the ripe old age of 3 My next 3 hamsters didnt live very long. 2 were siberian dwarf hamters(?) grey w/a black stripe who were suppose to be both girl but ended up being one of each and producing a litter of 2 pups. Sadly they lived less than a year. Finally my last hamster was a gift for the school that I worked for so I wasnt the only one caring for him and he lasted barely 3 months poor guy.

So now that several years have passed and I have decided to try hamsters once again I have my new Matthias. He seems very shy , running away from me when I open his tank, but has no problems accepting treats from my hand Last night he even let my fiancee B ( who claims to not like animals very much but then goes out and buys every treat known to man for them and cuddles them like babies) pick him up with no nipping And tonight Im planning on going out to buy 2 or 3 dwarf hamsters to complete my family of one gorgeuos 3 yo Liam (human ) one hermit crab Hooey, 2 gerbils Pipsqueak and Squeaky-squeaky and of course Matthias.

I looked forward to talking with everyone about our hamsters and hopefully learning a few new things.

Hello Mary, glad that you decided to post an introduction of yourself. You sound like a full-out rodent lover!



My first rodent was a hamster, she was also the best hamster I ever had although my next hamster Gerald who I rescued is cutting it close :P After my first hamster I also had gerbils, two breeding pairs in fact!



I know this is a hamster forum but it's nice to have a fellow gerbil lover around! Please feel free to post picks of your hamster, and the gerbils as well under the Miscellaneous Section



I think it's great your fiance loves the little guy :P My hubby like animals but he doesn't have the same interest as I do. I want to own as many pets as there is room and are affordable :P



He seems to really like Gerald and my Gerbils though, especially the gerbil pups

Hello Mary and Matthias - I love Dominant Spot especially in the Black colouration. Cannot wait to hear about all your hamster adventures - I think sharing their mad schemes and mishaps is the best part of hamster ownership, or ownedship, as I tend to look at my relationship with my little ones. Looking forward to seeing a picture of your Matthias soon.
