Default Hi :)

Hi, I'm Jess

I'm 21, a student nurse, and I've had hamsters since I was 7.

Currently I have two hamsters, mostly due to space but I am looking for a robo to re-home still, one Syrian and one Russian Campbell Dwarf.

Rocky is my Syrian and around five months old. He's a black bear and probably the most tame hammy I've ever had. I was buying a new bed for my cat when I saw him in Pah and he looked so miserable in the small glass tank they had him in, the only Syrian they had left in stock as well, that I bought him on the spot and took him home. It took one session of taming and he's been fine around people ever since - never bitten and usually runs all over me before falling asleep in my lap at night. He's very active when he's out of his house but when inside he's less so, he enjoys chewing, tubes and eating (though I usually find most of stored away uneaten) and he especially likes green veg (sprouts are his favourite) as well as a tiny little bit of apple and banana as an occasional treat. He used to love his wheel but it's only 6.5' and so I'm waiting on a 11' one to come through the post, hopefully on monday, as he still very active when we put his 12' flying saucer into his play pen.

Apollo is my Russian and we've had him for a few weeks. He'd been brought back to PaH because someone had bought two russians, stuck them in a multi-level mina duna with one wheel, and they ended up fighting and as Apollo was 'nasty' they'd brought him back. The man in the shop tried to persuade me off buying him as he said he was vicious but he's gorgeous and sniffed at my hand in the shop no problem. At home he took a few sessions but is now hand tame and likes to run up and down my arms. We've recently tried him on mealworms as a little treat and he loves them, snatching them from my fingers when I give them him and eating them on the spot, aswell as sugar free/fat-free popcorn sticks. He's very active, loves his wheel and burrowing and currently nests in him Karlie castle playground. He's got very fluffy fur though so we give him a little groom with a soft toothbrush every week just to keep him looking daper

Rocky currently lives in the 82cm Igor Fuchsia though in June, after I've been on holiday, I'm upgrading to either the 101cm Igor or an Alexander for him. Apollo lives in a ZZ1 at the moment with a guinea pig platform to add a second level but will be upgraded to the Igor once Rocky moves out. I use biozorb bedding for both my hammy's as Rocky has a very sensitive chest and had a resp. infection when I got him because of the very perfumed wood shavings he'd been kept in in the pet shop. I had to take him to the vets and got antibiotics which he had to have put on his head to be groomed off as he wouldn't accept the syringe in his mouth but he's all better now

All the treats I have for my hammy's are low in sugar/fat and have balanced nutrition, I was just wondering what was the better food to use for them? I currently use Pah Premium mix with some added mealworms but want something more nutritious for them if anyone has any suggestions??

I am also looking to re-home a Robo, keep looking in PaH for one thats been brought back for not getting on with it's cage mates, as I only have room for a cage spacious enough for one robo. Wouldn't want to bring one up on it's own without at least trying to raise it in a pair, if anyone knows anyone who needs re-homing

Looking forward to getting into the swing of the forum, it's really helped with cages/bedding

I shall include pics of my gorgeous boys as soon as I can figure how to get them off my IPhone!

Hi!
Welcome to the forum!
There's a section on here for rescues and rehoming so maybe check there? I know a few hams really need homes, but I don't do well remembering both location and species. There are robos up there though
