Thank you for all your 'hello's'! I'm so glad I found this website and joined, I've been a member of Fancy-Rats for a while but for some unknown reason I never thought to try and find a hamster one, and Humbug is nearly 2! I guess I must have thought I knew everything there was to know about hammies but I've already learnt that they like to run the perimeter of their cage (so have pushed all of Humbug's possessions a bit nearer the middle of the cage). I'd never seen him attempt it before (prob cos he couldn't!) and almost as soon as I'd done it, there he was jogging around the edge! I felt so guilty but so happy that I'd done something to make life better for him, even if it is only a little thing.

For the first time he's been a bit poorly this week with bad feet, we (and the vet) aren't entirely sure what happened but last Saturday I noticed one of his toenails looked black, then noticed the undersides of his feet had black scabs on. After much thought we think that he did it when he escaped a few days before that (cos my husband left his door open ). We found him in the morning in the shavings bag (don't worry it was open so lots of air going in) but it struck me later that he could have been walking around on the grill/bars on top of his tank for any number of hours before he jumped into the shavings bag. Anyway he's been very good having foot cream twice a day and is much better now. I'd be interested to hear if anyone elses hammy has ever encountered such a problem and what caused it. We've changed him onto the same cardboard squares the ratties are on, but don't really think the shavings were the issue.

Anyway it's lovely to meet you all and your hammies!

Thank you Babyboos! I'd love to know how Sue is doing too, don't think she's online anymore

Also I wondered if I might meet some more Pendragon Hamsters on this site, does anyone know if there are any around? I know Humbug had lots of lovely silver grey brothers and sisters, they must be somewhere!
