Default Hello!

Thought I should post an introduction.

My name's Emma, I'm a 3rd year veterinary student in Bristol, UK, and have always been interested in hamsters. I've had many pet Syrians, the latest being Mitzi, who sadly died of a thyroid carcinoma a few months ago, and Bella, who sadly died suddenly only 6 days after coming home. I've kept Campbell's Russians in the past too and currently have a pair of Roborvskis, Merry and Pippin, who are brothers and about 4/5 months old. I plan to get 1 or 2 new Syrians soon from a reputable breeder, to hopefully avoid what happened to Bella.

I'm helping Candace write the ailments section of the site, and also contributed the article on Roborovski hamsters, so would be happy to try and answer any questions about those things.

Em x

Yay Emma I’m glad you joined, I figure you probably would after contributing so much time to hamster central. I’m hoping that once the forum picks up ill have to assign some moderators and they will probably be those who were here first and are more knowledgeable about hamsters.

I had a hamster recently pass away as well, six days after I brought him home. Which is why I’m really glad your taking it upon yourself to write the ailment section I think we could all benefit from having it there are a reference.

I think merry and pippin and quite suitable names for two little dwarfs how cute!!

I’m not sure where I’m going to look for a Syrian next, I may be adopting one soon though, if I do Ill post about it.. But that wont be until about a week. I’m kind of hoping I do because his story seems kind of sad.

Welcome, welcome to the forum! *huggles*

Yes, we thought Merry and Pippin was quite apt - hobbit names for hobbit-sized hamsters! Although they are brothers, they differ quite a lot in size - Merry is 29g wheras Pip is only 20g. There are no other symptoms that might suggest something is wrong though - it just seems Merry is a little pig!

Excellent Babyboos!! Hobbit names for hobbit-sized hamsters is what I say

The first draft of the ailments section is up now - it is not yet complete, there are things missing, and there are a few typos and things to correct too.
