Default Newbie and in search of two Roborovskis.

Hiya all, Im new to here. 20 year old student living in Dundee (Scotland) at the moment. I used to have 2 gorgeous Campbells hamsters a few years ago, but sadly they passed on inevitably. I have now felt the pull of hamster owning once again and would love to become the proud owner of two Roboros some time soon. I have however, found a distinct shortage of any available Dwarfs at all. Ive tried all the local pet shops and still no joy. My hope was lifted again when I found out about Morag's bundles of joy (firstly congratulations on your 'human baby' hope all is going fantastically!) but I have had no success in contacting her or reaching her website (always says its down). Does this mean she is no longer working her magic within the Hamster world? Do any of you have any success or suggestions I could happily take on board and locate myself two new cute baby Roboros?

Any feedback welcome

Welcome to the forum. Baby babyboos has not arrived yet I think but she is probably very busy just now with preparations etc. Not sure about scottish robos though there are a few around Yorkshire if you are ever down this way!

Hello and welcome,

As far as i'm aware Morag is still working her magic in the hammy world but not as much (in prep for the new little one).

If you aren't able to get in touch with her or if she doesn't have any babies i should have baby campbells and ww's in the near future and also live in Dundee, my website is on my profile, unfortunately i don't breed robs.

Hope you get in touch with her soon and get those long awaited hamsters!!

Still here and still breeding hamsters though no Robos will be ready till end of May mainly because of needing to concentrate on our own human baby - whom incidently is due tomorrow and hopefully wont be here too quickly, as souffle says, I am still rushing around getting things ready for his arrival. Spent the day shopping and now am sitting with swollen ankles - joys!
Hamsters are all being cared for at my parents' farm for now thank goodness for grandparents .

All the best for the 'big arrival' when the baby comes Babyboos. A Babybabyboos!!!! It is a long wait near the end. Pophammy was 2 days late so you take it easy and put your feet up. Keep us posted.

Aww congrats babyboo thats super super news hope it all went to plan and you now have a human bundle of joy great!!!

Ive put the hamster search on hold just now till I finish my 3rd year at uni, but sometime in May or June Im hoping to start again. Thanks for the help Molly, Im still chosing between ww's and campbells.

Could I just ask; I used to have 2 dwarfs, I think they were Campbells, altho the shop didnt specify and I was too young to recognise the difference, but the cage I had for those two, would it be ok to use if I were to get 2 Robo's? The cage has a plastic base and wire frame, its similar to the Feberplast ones, long and squat with a 2nd floor. the wires are prob around a cm apart from each other, altho its not to hand so I cant be more specific. Would this cage be suitable as a home for Robos as I hear they are fond of escaping.
I also have a much larger plastic cage with wire at the top, similar to the Gabber cages as posted by pophammy in the 'Lets see your Hamster Cages!' topic. Would this cage be more suitable?

Also, which hamster type would you all reccomend? The Robo's seem to be most appealing just now, but as I know relatively little about the 3 types, Robo's, Campbells and WW, so am still deciding which to get. I think the real choice could be between Robos and Campbells, but could someone tell me the points I should consider when making my choices and the advantages for each type?

Thanks for all the help guys, as you can tell, Im really quite new when it comes to understanding and appreciating hamsters, but I am keen to learn.

And congratulations again Babyboo hope it was an easy delivery all the best to yourself and the babybabyboo
