Default Lump on Hamster

Hi there

I am new to this forum and found it coz I am worried about my Roborovski hamster.
He is 2 and a half and I discovered a lump underneath him about in the middle of his belly. It is purple and warm. I took him too Vets twice and was told the lump had got bigger and was a tumor. But after looking on here and other websites i'm thinking he may have an abcess. I saw a post on here from an Erin from Cyprus with a pic of her Robo identical to mine who had a lump some time ago. Would realy like to talk to her.
But has anyone else also had this on their hamster?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Erin is no longer active on here. So they probably wont see this and be able to help you out. Which thread of theirs were you looking at?

Male robos do have a scent gland in the middle of their bellies. They can get impacted but it not uncommon for tumours to occur in their scent gland. Ive have asked my vets to check lump on my hamsters by doing a needle aspiration to give me an answer. All case it come back as a tumour.

How long has he had the lump? Would you be able to get a photo (might be difricult with how wriggly robos can be).

Hi

Erin's post was replying to someone elses hamster which had a lump but the picture of her Robo looked identical to mine. My hamster has had his lump sinse around December. It was the size of a pea in Jan, now it's abit bigger then a marble. I think I first got it looked at in November last year by a local Vet who just thought his scent gland was inflamed. I wasn't convinced it was so took him to an Exoctic Vet who confirmed it was a tumorand nothing todo with the scent gland. I have noticed he is drinking alot now and last night I was mortified to see he had blood all over his belly. He had caught the lump on something. I am taking him back to Vet tommorow incase he has urine infection, but i'm scared the Vet will say to have him pts. Other then the lump, he is running around an eating. Looks perfect in himself. Not sure how to upload picture. I tried before and it would not let me

If you’ve seen an exotic specialist for a second opinion then their diagnostics should be more reliable. I had a mouse who had a mammary tumour and she caught that and they do bleed alot they often have lots of blood vessels in them. I hope your vet appointment goes well.

All vets can do is advise pts if they think it right - they cant force you to do it and they need your consent anyways through a signature on a consent form. If he acting normally and the lump is otherwise not bothering him then I see no reason for pts to be an option and the vet might give him antibiotics to stop any infections:

These thread should help with uploading photos. How to resize photos 2018 And to embed the photo How To Embed Photos. You need to resize them first and I use imgbb.com as a photo host as I cant upload photos from my iphone onto the forum.
