Default How much of a colour change do we expect!

Hello everyone!
In October we rescued wee biscuit. A vet nurse took her in after being asked to put her down after a fight with her sister. We ended up being her forever home!
The vet nurse was told she was a winter white, but due to her unknown origins we are assuming she’s a hybrid, though it seems like there must be some winter white in her.

When we first got her she was very light in colour, with a dark stripe.

Now she has turned a much darker colour.

Just wanted to know if it’s normal for her to have turned darker even though it’s only the start of winter? I guess central heating throws them off? Or is this because she’s a hybrid? When do you all reckon her fur will have changed completely? This is my first Russian type hamster and she’s a fascinating wee thing to care for and watch play <3

Hybrids can change colour and it does depend how much Winter white is in their genetic make up. Sometimes the genes are a bit mixed up and these little ones will constantly move back and forward between the shades. Even pure winter whites can do this. It's more governed by the light levels than the temperature. Some will even trigger a change in summer and go white. They tend to go almost fully white with a faint grey stripe gown the back. Summer coat would be the brownish coat all over with the paler belly. You can see when they start to change as they develop light eyebrows. I think your one will get darker and go fully brown and may change again as the light levels start to go up.
