Talking Went in for locusts... Meet Bonnie!

And came out with a tiny new addition lol.

Honestly, I went into P@H for locusts for my Leopard Gecko (Leo) and Mum and I stopped to look at the animals - as per usual. Our P@H is a really good one with an adoption centre.

We were looking at the dwarf Russian hamsters in the adoption section - they had 3 - Sooty, Aero and Bonnie.

Just for curiosity, I asked if I could have a closer look at them all.

Well Sooty squealed and ground her teeth the second the assistant (who I knew from animal college) opened the door and refused to show herself. Mum wasn't sure of her at all, so we moved onto Aero.

Aero completely froze when she saw us, and immediately buried herself under the woodshavings, and I wasn't sure about her (no reason why).

Then we came to Bonnie...and instantly fell in love! She was the most active and seemed to be quite confident in herself. She is tiny, white with grey stripe on her back. She's about 2 1/2 months old. Her previous owners bought her back as she was fighting with her siblings. So she's now occupying her new home (Exo Terra terrarium, which previously had a single gerbil in there). She is currently without a wheel, but I have ordered that, so hopefully it should arrive tomorrow. She was being fed Pets at Home Muesli, but I am going to gradually change her to a proper Dwarf hamster mix from tomorrow as well.

I am going to let her settle into her new home and I am so in love with her already.

Never had a Dwarf hamster before. I think she is a Winter White, but hopefully her coat can be confirmed when I can get a couple of photos on here.

I am now avidly reading through all the Dwarf Hamster section, so I can definitely make sure Bonnie gets the correct care she deserves.

It's typical though...you go into the store for one thing...and come out with several (I got a few bits and pieces for Bonnie as well - so she's been spoilt from the start lol).

Went in for locusts.. lol! that made me laugh what a lovely surprise to come out with though
She sounds really sweet & i'm sure she's going to love her new home.
She will be a hybrid, P@H & any other pet shops don't sell pure WW or Campbell's they're all hybrids.
Do you have a new food in mind? There aren't many choices now, Burgess has changed to a pellet food which isn't good so the only good dwarf mixes now are the Bunny dwarf hamsterdream expert from Zooplus or the hybrid mix from Rodipet which is the better of the two.

Look forward to updates as she settles in.

Haha - thanks Cypher.

Bonnie looks a little like your avatar - I will try to get some photos of her in the next few days for you too see. She's completely buried herself, so the terrarium looks empty, apart from all the bedding etc lol. I had a feeling she would be a hybrid...but too be honest...I couldn't care less what she is...she's just cute and adorable lol.

I am honestly not sure about which food to be honest. Hence why frantically looking up in the feeding/nutrition section for her. The Bunny Dwarf Hamster Dream Expert certainly seems the most popular but as you say the Hybrid Mix from Rodipet looks better too.

Both the Rodipet and Bunny mixes are very good. Harry Hamster is the best commercial mix in the UK since Burgess switched to a pellet mix but it does need supplementing for a dwarf. If you go for Rodipet or Bunny, I recommend keeping her on the p@h mix until the new one arrives and then gradually switching over.

I wouldn't use Harry Hamster for a dwarf, they do have different dietary needs to a Syrian & I personally prefer a more natural mix for them too.
I do think the Rodipet mix is the better of the two really, it compares reasonably in price with the Bunny mix if you take into account the Zooplus minimum order & delivery, worth buying a couple of bags & keeping one bad in the freezer when you get new food, saves on delivery & you can always keep a good store by you that way.

The HH mix definitely needs supplementing if it’s used for a dwarf but its the best UK pet store mix.

For a russian dwarf, the Rodipet Hybrid mix is the best choice really. https://www.rodipet.co.uk/pet-foods/...nior-500g.html

Congratulations. I saw the muesli burgess dwarf hamster food in my local p@h 2 days ago. So hopefully they will continue with both muesli and all in one food.
