Re: Perfect little Poppy
Thanks for all the love guys!
Poppy is doing well. She is hoarding prolific amounts of her food, probably because she feels safer eating in her nest than in the open.
She is coming out when I talk to her and will sniff me. She is still very scared, but seems to have a small amount of trust in me.

My housemate’s rescue Syrian was the same at first but she became one of the sweetest hamsters I knew.

Rescues tend to become some of the sweetest pets in the world.
My sister has 2 rescue labradors who are very interested in the hamsters but will not harm them. They even boop noses with their younger hamster Leia.
I've also found a way to interact with Poppy without scaring her. She loves peanut butter so I put a small pit om the blunt side of a bamboo skewer then hold it out for her to eat. I did this last night and she quite enjoyed the treat.
Pepper, my other hammy, seems to be interested in Poppy as she will stand in the corner that's closer to Poppy's cage and keep smelling, but she loses interest quite quickly and ends up going back to digging in her substrate and rolling in her sand

Re: Perfect little Poppy
I'm so glad you've rescued little Poppy! What a terrible thing she's been through. I'm sure she'll come around in time!

Re: Perfect little Poppy
And that's why children shouldn't be left unsupervised with hamsters! I am sure that was bad parenting, but boys can think it is funny. Even my stepson, who wouldn't harm a hair on our hamster's head, makes boy jokes about what he would do with the hamster! He says that about humans too so it's boy humour - but when it goes actually into doing cruel things. Children need to be taught about not being cruel to animals and that they are not toys or disposable.
Glad Poppy has found a home with you and hopefully she will learn to trust you with some patience. Hope she bit those boys!
