Re: All About My Humbug
Thank you BorisPasha, Coco61, cypher, Charlie Dunn, pinkpixie, Serendipity7000, hisnameispip and Thin Lizzy. Humbug is very flattered by your lovely compliments! He is still enjoying lounging on the sofa in the evenings.
Thin Lizzy, lovely to see you back on the forum have missed you. We also have the saying Bah Humbug too - as he injured himself around Christmas I thought Humbug would be the ideal name but Aww Humbug sounds a lot better though!
_______________
My Big Boy!
Humbug is a big boy – I think he is pretty much full grown but he is huge around 9cm in length and weighs a 72g! I must admit I was shocked to see what he weighed that I did it three times just to be 100% that the scales were right and they were! In a month he has gained 17g. He loves his food but he not overweight just a big boy.
Humbug says winter is coming to an end as is changing colour and getting his summer coat – he gotten this dark stripe across his lower back although the rest of him is still light grey. Its been quite fascinating watching his colour transformation – every day now his fur is slighty different or there are dark spots appearing. This photo was taken earlier in the week but the patch is darker now!
As it was pancake day yesterday decided to treat my hammies to some hamster safe pancakes which I made especially for them. As Humbug couldn’t have banana pancakes like Liquorice had – I grated some pecans into his batter so he had pecan pancakes. He wasn’t overly impressed with them but had a nibble and managed to get some cute photos nether the less!
and a few of Humbug posing for the camera ...

Re: All About My Humbug
Aww, Humbug is looking so extra adorable in his new coat. I do love how it is changing with the season. He is gorgeous and stunning no matter which coat he is sporting at the time. I just love him and his chilled out personality. He is a real darling. I'm so glad that he is doing so well and his stump is healing very nicely. He really is such a handsome fluff ball. I totally love his endearing expressions and his impressive markings. All of his pics are so gorgeous and really show off his personality. I'm so sorry that he didn't enjoy the pecan pancakes as much as Liquorice enjoyed hers. He sure looked cute in the pics though.

Re: All About My Humbug
Humbug looks so scute with his pancakes even if he wasn't that impressed!
His coat is looking really lovely now, he's one very handsome man!
He has grown a lot! I guess my Russians have been around somewhere between 65-75g when fully grown.

Re: All About My Humbug
Aww Humbug is a absolute delight, I can't wait to see his coat change and I know you'll be sure to post the transformation. He looks so chilled out and knows he oozes so much gorgeousness, just looking at him with his pancake and posing gets me giddy. As for his weight, he's soft, cuddly and so fluffy.

Re: All About My Humbug
Like I have mentioned in Liquorice's thread - apologies for my absence from the forum as I have been very busy but will try to find time to post more frequently.
____________
Humbug’s Haven – Linnmon/Utrusta DIY Cage
Ever since adopting Humbug I had been trying to plan and design a nice DIY cage for him – I took inspiration from VanillaHamHam’s Linnmon cage however made my own alterations to the design including putting a window in one of the sides as where I have his cage is by my door into my bedroom so wanted to be able to see into his cage when walking into my bedroom – so I wouldn’t startle him by accident plus I quite like being able to spy on both Humbug and Liquorice from another room across the hallway. Humbug’s cage is a Linnmon/Utrusta DIY – so his cage measures 100x60x60cm – using Linnmon table tops for the base and back of the cage whereas the two ends are the utrusta shelves as they are melamine board (so unlike the linnmon table tops don’t have a corrugated card inside).
Buggy’s cage took just over a week to build – had a few challenges like my acrylic not sliding into my U channels are easily as I had wanted and having to come up with solutions to issues as I went along. His cage cost a bit more than I had planned (around £120 – although worth every penny) but my cut to size acrylic cost around £50. But the main thing is he is loving his new cage and the space he has available – even though he a lazy boy he has the space if he want to explore and have fun – plus I have more space to add enrichment and also love that his cage now matches Liquorice’s and my bedroom furniture.
So here is a photo of Humbug cage mid construction and it final set up (with Humbug for size comparison)…
Fur Transformation
Last time I posted an update for Buggy he beginning to change back from his winter coat to his summer – it has been so fascinating watching the change – he doesn’t look like it possible that he can be the same hamster! I don’t believe he got his full summer coat yet as it still looks fairly light – but we will see but he still super adorable and sweet. Photos from the midst of his transformation.
Easter Photoshoot
Like with previous year I got both Buggy and Liquorice Easter eggs and did a photoshoot. Well Buggy wasn’t entirely sure what to do with the easter egg he just looked at me very confused however once cracked he was happy to have a nibble and realise the confusing egg was in fact very tasty …

Re: All About My Humbug
Further Updates and Photos
Humbug is still being such a sweet snuggly hamster – every evening if I’m late to getting him out he will be sitting waiting for me and gets so excited to see and hear me which I just love. He still is my hefty boy and his weight is remaining the same at 72g – so more hamster to cuddle.
So here for some more photos –
“Pilot Humbug at your service!” – I may have found a hamster airplane grass hide for Humbug at a local pet store – I had seen it online for a while and had been wanting to get one from him so when I saw it I was so happy. So now he has a train and a plane!
Humbug enjoying his nibble pot – like with my Syrians this pot has been a huge hit with him. He wasn’t interested in the beetroot inside the pot but loves nibbling on the pot. And also a photo of him tucking into some mealworms and shrimps!
Well someone wasn’t too pleased that I cleaned his wheel – it was getting really stinky so needed a wash. As soon as I put the wheel back in his cage he came out of his nest and began sniffing his wheel and looked quite dissatisfied with me – but I told him that he can make it stinky again!
Here is Buggy being super cute…
