Hi everyone!

Hesper has had a very exciting week 7 at casa del Lols. She tried freeze-dried chicken treats for cats as recommended by alpacassei I think. She has also had cabbage and swede for the first time and enjoyed both. She's been out for hugs this week most days for a few minutes at a time, gradually increasing. She came downstairs for a play in the living room for the first time. AND my Dad, who apparently doesn't like hamsters and wasn't keen on us getting one, held her for the first time and said she was sweet! She's won him over and he's a tough nut to crack!

Only downside is she's stopped using the potty all the time and gone a bit hit and miss with it. Not to worry. It's still early days.

All in all we're getting on wonderfully and I'm very happy with my little cutie. Hoping the rain stops so Madi cat can go out and Hesper can have some more living room time this evening. If not we might be in the tub or my little room only today.

Lx

Aww glad Hesper has enjoyed her new treats, always fun trying them with new foods. Sounds like she’s a real sweetheart too, lovely that your dad thought so too it’s impossible to not like hamsters though! Fingers crossed the potty usage gets back on track, sometimes they do find somewhere more to their liking.

She sounds so sweet, I'm not surprised she won your Dad over, who could resist!
Lucky girl enjoying her new treats & play time, it's great to hear how well she's settled in now

Hesper is TOO cute. I absolutely love her introduction picture and her gorgeous name and its meaning. Aww, I'm so glad that Hesper's taming is going so well, and she is enjoying being held and getting cuddles. I couldn't imagine anyone being able to resist her cuteness and charm so it isn't a surprise that your Dad has fallen in love with her, too. That is such wonderful news. . She really is as precious as can be and a real charmer. I'm glad that she enjoyed her new treats; I always found it so exciting to have my hamster try new foods. I hope that she gets decides to use her potty again for you so it will make spot cleaning easier for you. If she continues to go in another area, you may want to try moving the potty to that place and putting the soiled bedding in her potty to entice her using the potty again. Best of luck with continuing the potty training sessions. I know she will do fine with it.

Just been catching up with Hesper's updates - I'm so pleased that taming is going really well and she sounds so sweet plus is enjoying the cuddles with you. Its lovely that she has managed to win your dad over by her charm. Hesper also must be enjoying all the new treats she gets to try.

Hi all. I've been so busy I haven't been on in a little while and missed 395 posts! WOW!

Hesper is now 17 weeks and getting on a treat. She seems to like ALL food and is very lively but also still completely handleable and loves coming out to play on my bed. I've been gradually increasing this and she now does two 15 minute stints out every day at least. She's so cute I also really enjoy just watching her burrowing around and being all hamstery!

I found a spot she's been weeing in behind her wheel so there's no room to get a potty in and I don't want to mess with the layout for a while but I can at least scoop out what I can and refresh it now. I'm still not convinced this is the only place she goes but it's still not smelly in there so I've stopped worrying so much after some reassurance from cypher on a different thread (thanks again!)

I think me and Hesper are really starting to find our rhythm and now that I've stopped being such a totally paranoid ham-mum about absolutely everything I've just been able to enjoy having her and spending time with her which is much better all round!

Hope everyone else and their hammies are doing well! Look forward to having a catch up read later!

Adios for now!

Lovely update, great to hear how much you're enjoying your time together now, she sounds like one very happy little ham
Well done finding the pee spot! They do choose some odd places sometimes!

Hi all. Hope everyone is well?

Not been well and had a mad time with many things recently but one thing helping me keep my cool is Hesper! She is doing great and comes out pretty much every morning and night now and actively seeks me out if she hears me come in the room now which is very cute! She tried millet spray the other day which is by far her new favourite! She seems to have gone off a lot of the fresh stuff I was giving her though but maybe she's just being an awkward teenager now.

I haven't weighed her in a while but if anything she looks a little chubby now so I'm not worried by her tinyness anymore! I've also noticed her nails are getting a little long and she's still really zoomy so I've not had any joy trying to clip them a tiny bit like I did with my old hamster. I don't want to risk catching the quick if she moves suddenly so may have to pop to the vets soon. She's got slate and things in there and is plenty active but the outer two nails on the front toes don't seem as worn as the others. Just something I'm keeping an eye on for the mo as I have a bigger concern...

Madi (my cat) has developed dermatitis and although the vet can't see fleas they can see flea poo/evidence so I have checked Hesper who is fine (no fleas) but I need to deflea the cat early again and the whole house to be sure. Does anyone know after using Indorex how long I should keep Hesper out of the house? And should I take her tank out altogether or just cover the roof? It's a huge setup to move and I have a very narrow staircase to get it down and no car to move it so I would have to completely dismantle, taxi to a friends, reset it all up and then the reverse. Trying to work out the least traumatic way of dealing with the situation for all concerned. If it's only a few hours I'm inclined to move her to her carrier. If it's a day or two, maybe buy a smaller temporary cage and if it's long I will have to do the whole thing I guess?

Advice would be very appreciated if anyone has any.

Many thanks and apologies for the absence.
