Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
Thanks for everyone's kind comments to Hesper. I'm going to read them out to her once she's up hamstering around. She keeps odd hours so she's having a little kip now after dinner but she's usually up soon and we're going to be doing some bath tub training if all goes well tomorrow morning. I've found this works well as I'm a morning person so I'm up early and Hesper has largely worn herself out by then so she's much more placid than when she first wakes up and is in 100 per cent zooming around mode!

Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
I forgot to mention I weighed Hesper and she comes in at 28.5 grams. I've no idea if that's good as I haven't had a dwarf for years but going on looks alone I'd say she's grown a fair bit from when I brought her home!

Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
She sounds like a happy little girl, I find interacting with them in the morning works well if you're up early, they do seem to enjoy it rather than just wanting to be off zooming around doing their own thing!
She is still quite tiny but her weight is fine, there isn't really an average for hybrids, they often get to around 50-60g or more but others are always smaller.

Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
Thanks cypher. Glad to hear about the weight. She's still only a pup really so I'm sure she'll grow into her fluffy feet and ears sooner or later. Like I said, she's grown lots just since I got her! She's the dinkiest hamster I've ever had but she loves her food!

Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
The smallest hybrid I’ve had weighed 40g (Stephano) as an adult and when I brought home he was so light I thought the cardboard box was empty but other than his wood allergy, he was a healthy little hammie that lived till he was almost 2 and a half, outliving my other hybrids by a year or more! Size varies a lot with hybrids and she’s still a baby so as long as she’s healthy and eating well there’s nothing to worry about.

Thanks! I really do so appreciate the reassurance! She is so light I'm not sure sometimes! Used to Syrians more than this little miss!

Re: Hesper - The Evening Star
Hi everyone! A little update...
Hesper has had a major taming breakthrough. She was already eating from my hand but she started to wander up my arm the other day so I followed her lead and got her out. She sat in my hand and let me stroke her for a few minutes and then laid down like a little pancake all relaxed. She was sooo cute!!! Since then she's come out every day for a little hold and seems to be getting really chilled and used to it. I'm over the moon (or evening star)! I'll try and get someone else to take a picture of her whilst I'm holding her soon and pop one up on the thread.
In other news I found wee in the bottom of the sand bath so I swapped the contents and which corner it was in with her potty and she's started using it! Woohoo! I'm such a proud hamster mum!
HESPER FOR THE WIN!
