If they pancake or freeze I just talk to them quietly to reassure them, I often find that if you very gently stroke them with the tip of your finger they snap out of it but it's possible that could scare her, no harm in trying but if it does just keep talking to her, if necessary back off for a few moments before going back to her.

Pancakeing has increased, but I think it has something to do with the hot weather these last few days.

Playpen time and handling is still going ok. Last night she wanted holding quite often and came to stand on a bendy bridge in her playpen looking up at me, until I let her get onto my hand.

New duplicate wheel and sand bath added to the playpen along with some of the Pets At Home plastic tubes. I got three sets and join them together in various ways. They seem to be enjoyed by Willow

I have her food and water bottle or water bowl in the playpen, as well as chew toys, but hid some food for her to find as she explores.

Photos are proving a problem. She isn't keen on having photos taken, especially if I turn on the main light or even my bedside lamp.

Tonight will be weigh in time and new treat time. The treats are sugar free parsley drops or beetroot drops. Hope they are ok for dwarf hamsters.

What colour would she be classed as? It's really light possibly white in places.

The hot weather does have an effect on them so they may not want to much playtime. Those treats are absolutely fine.
Willow's blooming gorgeous!

I would think the increase in pancaking could well just be down to the weather too, see how she goes now it's cooling down a bit.

I'm not sure about her colour tbh, it's not easy to see from the photo & I'm still not totally sure if there are colours that can't have red eyes so would be ruled out, she does look a bit like a lilac in that photo but would really need more photos to say, that's a bit of a wild guess

Thank you both.

Last night was an off night, unfortunately. She got in her transport box as she wouldn't come on my hand. Once lifted out of her tank she had cuddles, before going into her playpen.

She had a quick explore of the playpen, including the weighing scales (she was 43 grams) before going in her bendy tube and not coming out for ages. Once out she sat behind the bendy tube in a corner and dug at the carpet. I thought she was unhappy so offered my hand, which she climbed onto and I put her back in her tank.

She had already gone to bed before I got up, so didn't get to interact.

The weather you guys have been getting will have had an effect on her, England always get it hotter than Scotland.
If only they had a zip on their coats for them to take off when too hot.

CMB, I am so sorry that it has been so hot for you and Willow. Hopefully, it will ease up soon enough. I'm sad that it was an off-day, but it was probably due to all that heat. Hopefully, she will be back to her usual self again very soon.

LOL, I couldn't help giggle at Thin Lizzy's comment about the coat zipper. I am just imagining it, and I wish they had the opportunity to take off the extra fluffy layer as well so they can feel more comfortable, too.

Sadly, I am not an expert in coat colors also. Hopefully, someone with more expertise comes along and gives you a definite answer soon. If not, I would suggest possibly to PM one of the breeders, and I am sure they would be more than happy to assist you. Good luck. Willow sure is a stunning hammy though!

Thanks everyone.

It has cooled down now. So hopefully Willow will be back to normal soon. As I post this she has just woken up and is in her sand bath/toilet having her just woken up stretch and a long grooming session. Once she is finished it will be time for food, water. Then a look around for any treats, before wheel time. I wait about one hour before seeing if she wants to cone out.

She likes encouragement on her wheel and will stop running and look my way. Once encouraged she goes extra fast, too fast sometimes and flips over.

It's a good job I stay awake late. Lots of time for Willow's routine. and get up early for more Willow cuddles and fun.
