Re: Meet Willow
I give mine a blueberry now & then, not too often but a little doesn't hurt, they do love them & they are very healthy so just a teeny bit of fructose once in a while isn't going to do any harm.

Re: Meet Willow
Thank you all. The blue berry was enjoyed too. I will definitely save it for an occasional treat.

Re: Meet Willow
Willow tunnels always amaze me.
It was very nice to see her eating her veggies. She looks so cute! I'am glad she is more trusting with you and that she's not afraid of the light

Re: Meet Willow
I was surprised to see no mess from the blueberry. Willow has her brave moments and not so brave moments when it comes to lights.
Her preference is definitely dark. So lots of late nights and early mornings.
Tunnels entrances at the moment are carefully closed, as if there isn't an entrance there.
Midday feasts (the equivalent of our midnight feast) are happening often. The bowl under the water bottle, which is there in case of leaks/drips from the bottle is one of her food/treat stores. she stores her favourite treats in or next to it.

Re: Meet Willow
The first time I gave mine a blueberry I wondered if they would end up getting juice on themselves and how long they might spend trying to clean themselves up lol. They never ate enough of it for that to happen though
Mine definitely prefer the lights to not be on, unless it's the red light.

Re: Meet Willow
I kind of hijacking Willow's thread. I'm sure she won't mind.
I am ham sitting while a neighbour is on holiday.
He is also a Russian hybrid. Named Jake. I have known him for at least two years and also knew his brother (now at the bridge). They were separated shortly after getting home due to fighting.
He comes out when called. Or maybe it was the fact I filled his food, water and gave him some of Willows treats. He is looking very old now and I have been warned he may die soon I moved his water bottle to ground level and also his food, as it looks like he would have trouble climbing up to the level. His cage is small, but fine for an old aged hamster. He went on his wheel briefly, before going back to bed.
I hope he can keep going until they get back.
I finally got Willow's substrate changed to Fitch. It's been a gradual process as she wasn't keen on the change. She had some scrambled egg and unbuttered toast to make up for the change. It could take some time before I am totally forgiven.

Re: Meet Willow
Jake sounds lovely, he is a good age but I hope he continues to do well for a while yet.
I'm quite surprised about Willow not being overly impressed with the fitch but it's most likely she doesn't like her cage being changed, I'm sure she'll enjoy it once it's been in for a while.

Re: Meet Willow
Lucky Jake being spoiled while his owner's on holiday, with you looking after him, it'll be a holiday for him.
I'm sure in time Willow will adapt to the fitch.

Re: Meet Willow
Perhaps Willow is just pretending to sulk over the change to fitch because that brings her such tasty treats! I hope she does settle to the change. It is such a good substrate.
