Re: Meet Willow
I have been thinking of getting some Science Selevtive pellets for Willow. Does anyone use them for their dwarf hamsters? and what did you and the hamster(s) think of them?

Re: Meet Willow
A lot of people have used science selective with dwarf hams, some like it, some don't, none of mine have ever been interested when I've tried it but I know other people's dwarfs (all species) have enjoyed them so you can only try really, I would only use it as an addition to her mix though not on it's own.

Re: Meet Willow
No babies. Babies are nice, but they would have probably been inbred babies between sister and brother. I was also worried as Willow would have been a young mum and there could have been complications etc.
Thanks Cypher. I have had mixed reviews on the Science selective. So I don't think I will get it at the moment. I may get some if Willow ever needs soft food..

Re: Meet Willow
Babies would have been very cute but I'm sure it's a relief to know she wasn't pregnant after all & better all round really.

Re: Meet Willow
Sure is a relief. The vet said it was possibly a phantom pregnancy. The vet had seen several hamsters recently displaying the signs of pregnancy even though they hadn't been near a male. All were dwarf hybrids.

Re: Meet Willow
That's interesting CMB, I haven't come across anything about that before really, very curious unless it has been pregnancies where the hams have absorbed the pups as I know can sometimes happen maybe if the mother is too young or for other reasons I'm not entirely sure about, but in hams that haven't been near a male for long enough not to actually be pregnant it is unusual!

Re: Meet Willow
IMG_0011.JPGThe vet said it's something to do with the hormone levels. The environmental conditions can also play a part. I didn't fully understand some of the vet terms she used, but got the basic idea. She said it's like when my chicken goes broody (wants to hatch eggs) but we don't have a cockerel,. Not allowed to keep a cockerel due to living in a town (noise problem from the crowing)
I actually managed to get a photo of Willow when she came out for some veg.
Should I have resized it vertically, as it's still quite big?
