Re: Meet Max
He's so cute!!
In those photos he doesn't look afraid at all! I hope too that he gets braver now that he's with the other boys. His set up looks nice, and his water bottle holder too, but yes, if he has to make some acrobatic moves to reach it maybe it would be better for him to change it

Re: Meet Max
He looks adorable having a good explore there bless him
His layout looks fun for him & I do love his hideout over his sand!
I hope he gains more confidence now, it may just take him a little more time.
Have you thought about trying a small shallow water bowl for him, he might get on better with that.

Re: Meet Max
Thanks all
Yes Cypher it's amazing what you can do with old tissue boxes lol. I would like to try him with a water bowl but everything I see seems to be quite deep (when I'm looking at food/water bowls). The dish I got for his food was something for salt and pepper to sit on lol but I don't know that it would be any good for water though. If you know of a suitable bowl let me know

Re: Meet Max
He's beautiful! A local shelter here had a 3-legged hamster for adoption. As soon as I saw his picture and read the description/summary, I went to adopt him, but he had already been adopted by a teacher as a classroom pet. Enjoy your little Max!

Re: Meet Max
It can be a bit tricky finding the right sort of bowl, I use the Rodipet ones but I think they might be a bit high for him, you could try something like a glass tea light holder, scour the £ shops for small saucers (never know what you might find!) or try a reptile dish, they can work quite well, here's a few that might be suitable, smallest sizes.

Re: Meet Max
Update on Max
Max seems to be keen to follow in big brother Jaska’s pawsteps and be a recluse! He still doesn’t come out until we are away to bed and very occasionally you catch sight of him during the day if he is going for a drink. He doesn’t seem scared of us though as he’ll come and get some seeds from you if he wants to but he doesn’t seem interested in socialising lol.
He was getting a spring clean in his cage on Saturday so I popped him in to his travel box with his house and a drop of scatter feed. He wasn’t best pleased as he skulked around the box squeaking his displeasure at me before going back in to his house for a sleep. The last time he got a cage clean it was awful (we’d put him in a smallish cardboard box with some of his toys, food, water, hidey holes in it), he was having quite the hamtrum, kicking his food everywhere and trying to climb out. I’m not sure who was the most stressed by the end of it, me or him!
With him being such a night time hamster I’m struggling to know what to do with giving him fresh veg. I feel like he’s missing out on something that would be good for him. Should I just put it in his cage at night and hope he doesn’t hide it?
The pics I got are a bit blurry but thought I’d share so you can see him
