Boxing Hamsters
I went back to the pet shop and picked up another hamster from the same litter a week after I bought my first one---yikes, they literally stood up on their back legs and started boxing and rolling around like they were out for the kill---it was kind of funny but I broke them up immediately---good thing I was already prepared with a second cage! They look so much alike I couldn't tell who was who---LOL Anybody else had this happen? I will keep them separate, but man I was not expecting that kind of response!

Re: Boxing Hamsters
You should never re-introduce hamsters that have been separated as babies, especially if they're Syrians! You can't plonk a hamster in a cage which has the first hamster's scent all over just because they were at the same pet shop.
The hamsters could have really hurt themselves. Check for any bite or scratch wounds. They probably were fighting to kill as hamsters can be very territorial over their space.

Re: Boxing Hamsters
A week is a long time to a hamster, even if they were siblings it would still be like trying to introduce a complete stranger to your ham & the one you already had would have established his/her cage as his/her territory & not want another ham in his/her space.
Russian hybrids can be kept as pairs but it isn't easy even if they have never been separated nor is it natural for them so both your hams will be a lot happier in their own cages.

Re: Boxing Hamsters
Glad you managed to separate them so quickly. Hope you enjoy your tiny new friends. Photos would be lovely once they are settled.
