Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
I occasionally take in a rescue ham, and this 4 month old ham was in need of a home locally. Originally called Hammy, I thought he could be a Hamlet when he arrived. Except he turned out to be a girl! Meet Ophelia
Hybrid hammy by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
She's loving her new food and her sand bath - her coat looks smoother already. She'll be in quarantine for a couple of weeks while I get to know her. If she's friendly and healthy then I hope to rehome her.

Re: Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
That's a really cute pic of Ophelia eating her food, whoever gets her will be a lucky. Nice you rescued a hammie who needed a home.

Re: Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
Ophelia will be staying - she sadly tested positive for glucose today (the strip went straight to dark brown). She's enjoying her nest box though and digging sand all over her cage! She kindly is using her sand shelf as a toilet too which makes spot cleaning easier.

Re: Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
That's a shame about the glucose, sounds like she's having fun & enjoying life though, I do love to see a ham making a mess with sand lol!

Re: Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
Poor Ophelia managed 12 hours in the hamster room before she went back into quarantine! She developed some loud respiratory noises as well as bleeding from her vent so is on antibiotics. She's still active and eating, but with the diabetes and her not liking people I wouldn't feel she's suitable for a spay. Bless her, she just can't get a break. But her breathing is a lot better after just a day of meds.

Re: Ophelia the Rescue Hammy
It's a nice thing your doing, taking care of a hamster with health issues. Makes me so mad that so many of the Russians are diabetic, let alone a massive amount of health problems. I still buy/adopt them anyways if one grabs my heart.
