Re: Jaska
That's too bad that he's so scared for no reason. Makes me think what his past was before you adopted him? If he was mistreated at all? Hope things get better, my robo that I've had for 5 mo has yet to take a treat from me

Re: Jaska
Once Jaska realises he's got a front door, he'll get more confident and you'll both do it together.

Re: Jaska
Thank you Cypher, CB and Lizzy I ordered a new cage for him last night, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Savic-Hamst...hamster+heaven. Won't get it until next weekend but I'm looking forward to getting it organised for him
CB, I got Jaska when he was 8-10 weeks old so the pet shop said) but he was so tiny I can't help but wonder if perhaps he was younger. He was a lot smaller than Boris and Pasha and I got them at 11 weeks old. When I've been in the pet shop recently (I go there nearly every week to visit all the hamsters lol) the hams they had have been bigger like the size Boris and Pasha were. Anyway whatever his circumstances I love him to bits and I'll do my very best for him

Re: Jaska
I was wondering if he might have been the runt of the litter (no disrespect handsome man!) being smaller & weaker may have had to struggle a bit to get his fair share of things as a baby & felt more vulnerable.
Sometimes I think it can just be down to character too, I've been following the most adorable Chinese litter on the German forum & while most of them are really brave & inquisitive there is just one who is so much more timid but has been treated just the same as the others.

Re: Jaska
Yes I wondered that too Cypher and I do think that part of it is just his personality, like people they can be very different! He's a very sweet boy though and I'm hoping that at the least we can get him to feel safe in his new cage (I'm trying not to get too excited in case it doesn't work!). The Chinese litter sound lovely and I guess is proof that they're not all the same even when they've been treated the same

Re: Jaska
Thought I would post an update on Jaska. He’s still very reclusive and we’re lucky to catch a glimpse of him once a day. The minute he senses your presence he’s gone.
He got in to his new cage with the front opening door a couple of weeks ago and was keen to have an explore around once we were done but that’s been it lol. We left things pretty much in the same place as before so that it wouldn’t spook him too much. We got him a free standing shelf and he loved his new bird bath (sand bath) that we put underneath it and had about 10 baths (he does like his baths lol). He still has his sand bath under his egg box that he likes to sleep in. Jaska is another ham who refuses to pee in the sand and you have to put a nice flat bit of toilet roll paper down between his egg box and wheel for him to pee on which is fine as it’s easy to throw away and replace with a clean bit (I think I have some strange hamsters lol).
After 5.5 months I’m starting to feel pretty much resigned to the fact that he’s maybe never going to want to have much to do with us but I will continue to give him the opportunity (if I see him lol). We had him out today as we wanted to put some more fitch and carefresh in and to fix his wheel on to the cage to give some more space. He wasn’t happy. Offered him some sprouts and he just knocked them away in his haste to find cover. I’ve left them in his cage for now as I think he will like them once he’s settled down after the trauma!
Here’s a few pic of his out of cage (the horror of it all) time.

Re: Jaska
I've been wondering how little Jaska has been doing in his new cage, it does sound as though he approves even if he doesn't take the opportunity to tell you often enough!
It's a shame he's such a shy boy & it does sound as though he probably will remain that way although you never know, he might chill a bit as he gets older, some do.
You're giving him a good life & I imagine he is a happy man in his own quiet way.
Lovely to see some photos of him again, just a shame he didn't enjoy his time out, or his sprouts! Hope he gets stuck in when he thinks no one is watching!
I have a similar response from Tinwë whenever I try out of cage time, actually I gave up on the whole idea as he wouldn't speak to me for days after lol! I just pop him in his carrier now if I need to clean & he's so excited to be let out again he forgets he's supposed to be scared

Re: Jaska
BorisPasha, I just read your thread of Jaska. He is ABSOLUTELY adorable and quite the beauty. He is definitely a true cutiepie. I also love the wonderful photos that you took of him. They are stunning.
I am so sorry that Jaska has been so scared and timid. Sometimes no matter how hard we try to make little ones feel comfortable and less shy, each individual is so unique so it may just be in his nature to act this way. It definitely is no reflection on the love and effort that you are putting into doing everything possible to make his world perfect. I am sure that he feels your love and loves you back, too. You are totally an awesome hamster mum so never doubt yourself. He may not know how to express everything he feels, but I am sure he knows he is quite the lucky little fellow. Don't get discouraged though. Who knows what the future can hold? He could always outgrow this stage, too, and become all the more playful as time passes. I will definitely be wishing you and Jaska all the best and hoping that he will come out of his shell bit by bit.

Re: Jaska
OMG he just melted my heart!
He's so sweet and cute. Is a pity that he's so shy. did you try to take him out in different enclosures? figuring out a lay out where blacky was comfortable was a challenge to me... Anyway, sometimes we just have to accept that they don't want to know much about us
