John, Maggie & Falsificate & John Jr.

Hello! Here, I want to introduce all four of my cute hamsters

First and oldest one is Maggie (actually I call her Małgosia in polish)
She is about 2 years old, my mother bought her from a local pet shop, and gave her to me as a surprise present after my previous hammy, Patch, passed away.
Now spend a real lot of time with me and is still doing great, not having any health problems, living very active life. Actually, getting a photo of her was quite a hard task, most of the time she refused to sit still.
She also is a mother of 12 pups [two litters of six - second one was kinda accidental, her mate is an escape artist! And their tanks are right beside each other :c ] second litter was a little late - she was about 1,5 years old, but she was an exellent mother - she delivered both litters without trouble, haven't ate or abandoned even a single pup, and 10 out of 12 pups went to new, good homes. Remaining two are the ones I kept, of course
She has wonderful personality! She's curious, gentle and she doesn't nibble me.

My second hamster is John, in Polish Jaś. I bought him on my 18'th birhtday in another local pet shop. He and all of his littermates looked like pure winter whites, and he changed his coat for winter, but I can't be sure with pet shops. He was so cute and tiny! Now he have a little less than 1,5 years and is still quite tiny and seem very fragile. In spite of his looks, he's anything but fragile. He's an escape artist and passionate wheel runner. Also he can be very loud if awakened in the middle of day. Fortunately he calms down when he realizes that what awakened him is indeed a new portion of food
Once he managed to block his wheel with a chew toy [it is a wheel with bars with paper entwined between bars] and climb out of the tank. Since then he was trying this again and again. After Maggie's second litter was born, i said goodbye to basics of space management and put the wheel right in the middle of his tank so he won't be able to reach any of tank walls even if he blocks and climbs the wheel.

Two pups of Maggie's litter i've kept are:

Half year old John Junior [Jaś junior]
He inheirted his father complete winter-white appearance and changed his coat colour in winter season - now he is changing back to his original sapphire coat. Actually when he was a month old he was supposed to be rehomed, but the person who was supposed to take him changed his mind. Of course I had no trouble keeping him - and there is no way i would give him away now! He is the cutest, sweetest hamster I've ever had! In the matter of personality he even beats his mother. Appearance-wise, also. Such a cute fluffy little furball.

And the half year old Falsificate [Podróbka]! Female I kept from Maggie's litter. There is a funny story behind her name. I wanted to call her Mewah, she was born having creamy golden fur but when she was about month old, her coat started to get brighter and more gray than cream. My mom started laughing that she is falsified! She was calling her falsificate, And somehow, the nickname stuck with her. And her coat kept changing. In late autumn she was half grayish creamy [head and front] half silver [back] and then, in the winter season she turned completely white. Right now her winter coat changed to very light cream colour with darker grayish dorsal stripe.
She is one hyperactive hamster. She loves her wheel, and is running in it every night, then, when taken out of tank, she is as fast as a robo! Just cannot sit still, that is, until she finds something worth of her attention for more than 2 seconds

Oh, yes, they are! Maybe aside of this little nibbler, John! I've hand-fed him too many snacks when he was little and now I have to pick him up, since he won't climb on my hand, instead he would bite my fingertips, thinking that i brought snacks c: And when he's out of tank he fiercely attacks every piece of fabric in sight! Maybe i should give him piece of some old rag to tear up in tank?

What a gorgeous bunch of hamsters! They certainly sound like they keep you busy

lol! He does look as though he's having a bit of a go there! Maybe try to convince him he'd do better having a good chew on some cardboard or a nice piece of wood instead!

Hahah. He does get a good chew on toilet paper rolls once in a while. For some reason he also scratches the inside of the roll like he would want to dig through it :3

Aww sweet

Just wondering if you always give them so little substrate?
Most dwarf hams love to have a good dig & burrow & having them in tanks gives you even more opportunity to give them lots to dig in than cages do, 15cm or more if possible usually works well.

They do love to dig, surely, but I had some trouble with water bowls when I gave them more substrate - they were digging under them, overturning them, spilling water on substrate or throwing substrate into water,and I was afraid that when i'm out in school they would spill all their water and have nothing to drink all day long :c so i have started giving them less substrate, so it wouldn't be shoved into water bowls all the time
