Little Pepsi
I took in a little 'Russian' hamster on Saturday who I have now named a Hybrid.
Pepsi was the pet of a child who was scared of him, and not the first to be given to a rescue for the child's lack of interest...a puppy, guinea pigs and rats came before apparently (I won't understand some people)...so the owner's friend took him and handed him in to me.
He is a very lovely little man, roughly 7 months old...he has never been handled though. He is very active and seems to enjoy a little nibble...
The good news is I probably have a nice little home lined up for him too, so he should be a great success story - but he deserved a thread of his own until he leaves me!
I was wondering if any hybrid owners could give me some advice though...does he look too skinny in the pictures I have attached? I was a bit worried about his size.
I gave him a cage clean today and put some old bedding back in for him, also, changed the mini duna wheel to a savic wheel since he seems to love a run but was having trouble before!

Re: Little Pepsi
He's gorgeous! He's on the skinny side, but he'll be fine

Re: Little Pepsi
He is very cute, good for you for getting him out of a sad situation. I don't know why people buy kids dwarfs. I have 6 hybrids and this one does look a little skinny to me but is he also pretty small length wise? I have one tiny little guy that is the smallest dwarf I have ever seen and he's long and lean the others are really round and plump I wouldn't worry too much as long as his appetite seems good and poo looks normal. I am for sure not an expert so hopefully someone else will chime in too.

Re: Little Pepsi
Thank you both
I did feel he was a bit skinny. I have been giving him a little taste of different foods to see what he likes, only tiny pieces of course to get him started.
If anyone could suggest what to give him to help him maybe gain some weight, I would love it! I am more of a Syrian owner and I don't want to give him anything that he shouldn't have

Re: Little Pepsi
He looks fine to me, some hybrids are skinnier so to be honest I'd not worry about getting him to gain weight. Polly is the same build as he is, yet her sister Boo is the more typical chubster hybrid (as is their brother Ghost). Its never been a problem for Polly and their sister Geiger was the same build as Polly so I wouldn't worry about it - if he wants to gain weight he'll probably just overeat a bit for a while and can gain it on his own without a problem

Re: Little Pepsi
Thank you all for the advice, I was worried about him
Hopefully he will be all fine and healthy, I will keep an eye on him though!
Here is a little video of him enjoying a sand bath for the first time the other night

Aww he's adorable! A tad skinny maybe but I'm sure he's fine. He's certainly enjoying his same bath.

Re: Little Pepsi
@Emsy, I thought I'd give him his own little thread, especially as this was the last day of my 31 day thread!
@Syrian Hammy, he certainly did enjoy the bath...I sat and watched him for ages. After only owning Syrians it's strange seeing such a tiny little one running around and how different his behaviour is...
