I thought hybrids don't change colors?
Soo I got Kitty back in december, and she was advertised as a "Djungarian Hamster" but she was all white with a dark gray stripe down her back, so I figured she was just a russian dwarf/winter white hybrid hamster. Well someone on here told me that the hybrids don't change in the winter... But I was at my moms all this week and it's been freezing lately, and when I came home to my dads, she was entirely white with no gray stripe or anything on her!!
She's adorable obviously, but is it possible that she could be a pure winter white, or can hybrids change colors? I would try to get a picture but my camera is dead D:

Re: I thought hybrids don't change colors?
I think she must be a hybrid if she is all white apart from the stripe as I'm sure Pearl is the only similar colour but they have grey ticking on the face and body too. It depends on which genes are dominant, if it's the WW then yes the hybrid can change colour.

Re: I thought hybrids don't change colors?
I think i've heard of little bits of other members hybrids changing colour, often it's less than a pure ww (i think), but if it's a hybrid with more ww blood in than most...then it's possible.
Maybe it helps that she is already quite white
I say I think because i've seen other members mention it...but can't remember where D:

Re: I thought hybrids don't change colors?
Hybrids definitely can go into winter moult. If not, that'd be one very handy clue in working out whether a hamster was pure WW or not! Those that look more campbelly don't seem to - but the WW-a-likes do.
Hams in winter moult do tend to keep some markings though, they tend to have arches marked and a dorsal stripe. Could she maybe be a platinum campbell who is just getting lighter with age?

If aging you mean getting like OLD, no because she's still a baby. Well sort of. She was born at the end of August or beginning of September I think. I have a before and after picture of her gray stripe.
This picture is from the day I got her:
And this is from 10 minutes ago:
