Hi guys,
Well once again i was at the p@h adoption section and i saw 3 Russian dwarfs in a tank together, one clearly being a lot bigger than the others and two very small ones snuggling in to the bigger one..
I asked what their story was and was told that the bigger one is the mum (7months old) of the two daughters (est. 7weeks old) that she is with in the tank and that it was an unwanted litter that was brought back to the shop..
Ofcourse i brought them home
but was concerned about
1. The size of the little ones..they were tiny! surely couldnt be 7 weeks old! I have had 7 week old dwarfs before and they have been
a lot larger. Unless these ones are maybe undernourished? They are smaller than my Roborovski :O I really think they could be younger..?
And
2.The sex of the "mum" .
I decided to take them all to the vet the very next day (as it was closed the day i got them) and sure enough the "mum" was in fact a male..while the 2 little ones are female...
I know sexual maturity in Russian dwarfs is 6-8weeks? And if what the staff said are correct about their age..then they could well be pregnant..
So I separated them straight away..lucky i have a few spare cages. I have been feeding the little ones egg and porridge and chicken and just hoping that they are not pregnant. But I am preparing for it.
I got them roughly ten days ago...a bit of a muddle isn't it!?
Anyway here are some pics
Falafel - The "mum" who is a male
And Zoe and Cinnamon ..
They are very tame and Cinnamon (boyfriend named her because of her colouring) is a bit more inquisitive and runs about on my hand and "tastes" sometimes lol
Zoe (named after my best friend ) is more laid back and just sits on your hand and cleans herself and doesn't wonder about much.
They are both loons at night! darting around and spinning around their wheels
Falafel (named because I really wanted a hamster called Falafel
) Is a softy and likes coming out for a wonder, and he loves egg
Anyway sorry for the very long post!
