Post Glass Cage

Hi guys

As mentioned in other threads i want to get a bigger cage for Dexter.

I currently have a mini Duna cage which looks a bit small already for Dexter. I was wondering about putting him in a fish tank? We have a 4ft or 6ft (cant remeber the size) glass tank on a stand stored in my inlaws garage and wondered if that would be ok to use?

x

Yep you certainly could use a tank for him, especially if its a big as four or six foot! The main draw backs that I can think of would be lack of bar climbing, might be a problem if Dexter enjoys this? But could be overcome with lots of climbing toys for him. And ventillation - make sure that there is lots of air flow, through a meshed lid or similar. Otherwise the space would be great. My zoozone 2 that I keep Phoebe in is about 3ft and thats huge! Sounds like Dexter is going to be a spoilt hammy!

i couldn't agree more, 4ft is a great size and well 6ft would be a mega mansion!!!
If your alright at D.I.Y a wooden frame meshed for teh lid shouldn't be too difficult to make

I have to to try and talk my husband in to letting me use it as a hamster cage lol but i think we can make something to put on top. The lid is broken anyway so its not being used for anything at the moment. I have just looked at the ZooZone cage and that is a really good size. I just cant believe how much hamster cages cost.

I know - gah! Got my zoozone2 second hand from ebay - still paied over £20 though! If you have a big tank sitting around doing nothing it would be a great alternative. For a lid all you would need is some wood to make a frame and some wire mesh.

i was lucky, i happened to have a zoozone 2 laying about in my garage from years ago when we had guinea pigs
I really wanted one and i was looking at all the amazing set ups on here until i realized it was what i already had
But i don't think i'll buy cages from pet shops again, Ebay is just so much cheaper!

Well the glass cage is not going to work. It has a crack in it

So went off and had a look round and bought a Duna Fun Cage. I think it will work really well as you can join on other parts to it to make it bigger. Once it has arrived i will put some new photos on. Thank you for all your help guys xx

Er hate to tell you this but the duna fun is actually no bigger floor space wise. The measurements that they give are including the tubes so tricks ppl into buyingthe cage thinking its bigger. You can buy and extension kit for the mini duna to make it in to the duna fun. I think equniecanonefeline sell it, someone posted it on here a few days ago.
