Default Bin cages-Idea!

I have been researching bin cages for a week or two and I ran across something that I haven't heard of before. I read that instead of using wire on parts of the enclosure (example: the lid) just use a section of a hamster playpen, just as you would use the bars off of an old cage. Would this work or not? (I don't know because I have not bought a playpen yet).

I will also start my bin cage hopefully this weekend, (that's why I'm asking this now, so I'll have your opinion by then).

I've seen this used and it too, will work. Like I said in my article, you are only limited by your imagination. I just showed how I made MY bins and the fact they are easier to make than most thought.

Again, remember to fasten all wire to the INSIDE of any opening you make so the hamster cannot chew it's way out.

I’m assuming you mean those little play areas you set up, with a movable wire fence. I’ve seen them in Wal-mart being sold for 9 something US.

But rather then using that, you should just visit your local hardwear store and buy some mesh, I got a foot of mesh for about $2 so you can get a lot more for cheaper.

Here is a picture of my bin cage. You can see that I used a small piece of mesh for my lid. You can use it on the sides also unless your adamant about having a door in the front you can access the inside of the bin by just taking the lid off.

I had more then enough mesh from the foot I bought to make a mesh lid for Gerald’s cage too.

Unless you can find or already have a scrap cage I would just by some good quality mesh. Use your best judgment, if its for a dwarf just make sure the mesh linking is smaller then half an inch.
