Is the hamster heaven worth it?
Ive been planning to get harley a new cage for weeks now but where i live is quite isolated so its a bit of a journey to get to the nearest pets at home, and last time i was there (granted it was a few months ago) i saw a cage which im sure was the hamster heaven.
So i was thinking about getting it if they still have it stocked there, and if not, i may just order it anyway, but i was wondering if its worth it for a syrian. Will he be able to use the little tubes and the penthouse or will they be wasted, cause if they wouldn't be used, would i be better off spending a bit more money on the alexander cage from zooplus? (formerly the big1 i think...)

Re: Is the hamster heaven worth it?
My Syrian (5 months old) is incredibly huge, to the point where she has to use a rat-sized wheel, and yet she can still go through the tubes on the hamster heaven with ease. it looks like she is really squished but she's not. it's amazing how they can really get through small spaces. She uses the house on top as her bed and stores food in it. She really seems happy in this cage. It's easy to clean and sturdy - well worth the money in my opinion. when you first put it together the tubes are very difficult to put in, but after about 2-3 cleanings the plastic rings become softer and easier to clip on. since it usually takes a while to clean both the tube area and the cage itself, I usually clean the tubes and the nest one day, and the rest of the cage the next. that way i don't get really annoyed with cleaning it.
I think the biggest advantages the hamster heaven has over the Zooplus alexander cage is 1) the clips that hold the wire to the base are METAL, not plastic. that means they won't snap. 2) you can use any kind of tubes you want - savic tubes are compatible with ferplast. the alexander has no tube openings.
Love the HH!
Call the pets at home first before you travel. if they have one, they can hold it for you. if not, you'll need to order it online, but the pets at home site no longer carries it.

Re: Is the hamster heaven worth it?
I don't think they can give you a discount because that's not how the large chain stores work. they have to report to a corporate office that tracks all their inventory and they aren't allowed to change prices.
the only thing you could have done is take the cage back within 2 weeks of getting it and ask for a refund.
You could ask to speak to the manager of the store though and let him know you are not pleased that you were misinformed. I will warn you though, some managers think a syrian can live in a shoebox and they will just tell you that your cage is fine.
One thing a manager MAY be authorized to do is give you an employee discount using his or her code. Sometimes they can get away with that for customers.

I think either cage would be great!
But yes the HH would be a bit easier since you don't have to coat all the levels and such.
Btw where can you order the HH from these days???

Re: Is the hamster heaven worth it?
I got mine from PAH just before they were dicontinued, it cost about £80. My ham is also large and the tubes are a good size for her. A little hard to put together but great still. There's lots of space inluding a shelf and plenty of room to hang toys aswell. It comes with lots of bits like 2 houses, litter box etc. I think it is worth the money

Re: Is the hamster heaven worth it?
I don't think they're worth £100, which they seem to be on a lot of sites now. I'd suggest the Ferplast criceti 15, which is around £50-£60.

Re: Is the hamster heaven worth it?
I have this cage too and my hamster loves it. I also have the Alexander which my hamster has decided to chew a huge hole in grrr. I think that the Alexander is a lot bigger and i have taken the wooden shelving out and replaced them with the grey ferplast shelves which are a lot easier than the wooden ones to clean ect. It takes up a lot of space but the HH is plenty big enough and he seems to enjoy that one just as much
