Golden and Roborovski
Can Golden and Roborovski hamsters live in 2 cages but connected by tubes?
I see that some of you have up to 5 hamsters, does that mean that each of them lives in a separate cage and has never interacted with each other?
Thank you!

Re: Golden and Roborovski
What do you mean when you say golden? Do you mean syrian? If so syrians must be housed alone. Roborovski's can pair up but if they fight will have to separated.
I have 4 syrians and each has their own cage, distanced away. They can still smell each other but they seem ok, when i moved the cages closer they started teeth chattering which is a sign of aggression.
Hope that helps and welcome

Re: Golden and Roborovski
I second all of the above. Syrian hamsters must live alone. Roborovskis can be in pairs or groups, but would need to be separated if they fought.

Re: Golden and Roborovski
Im guessing she means syrian anyway - her Avatar is of a syrian. And yeah, i agree- syrians must live alone, dwarfs can be kept in groups.

Re: Golden and Roborovski
Usually each hamster has his own cage. "Golden" or as you mean syrian hamster HAS TO have his OWN cage, and live ALL ALONE, or he will kill the other hamster.

Re: Golden and Roborovski
Yep, what the others have siad is right, Syrian (or golden) hamsters MUST live alone, they can not live with the same species or any other species - they do not get lonely, they prefer their own space and as Katty says they will fight to the death if put together.
Dwarf hamsters like Robos, russian, and winter white can live together, but its is not unusual for them to fight to, in whci case they MUST be separated.

I agree with what everyone else says and absolutely no play dates either.

Re: Golden and Roborovski
just to make sure its clear, though the 'dwarf' species, capmbells russian, winter white russian, roborovski and chinese (though chinese isnt technically a dwarf :P) can live together, its live together with members of the same species, not that you can mix a robo with one of the other species.
and of course same sex pairs to avoid litters, often males stay better than females together, this is certainly true for chinese where it is rare for two females to stay together into adulthood.
