Re: pooing in his bed
ok, so poop is not a big problem, but what about poop and pee?!
My Morris has a wet bed every day, and as a result, it means a wet smelly hamster!
Any views on this, as this SURLY cannot be good for him?!

Nope I don't mind ham poo either! Its nicely formed little pellets that can be easliy picked up - it might be different if they were squidgy!

Re: pooing in his bed
Ahaha! Brilliant. Hammy poos are funny, aren't they?
Princess Peaches used to poo in her nest (just a nest she built herself, paper and that, no house). She used to collect them all up, then sit down for a good while, sorting through them. Ones to eat back in the nest. Ones not to eat, down a pipe! It was brilliant to watch, specially if she found a "chain of sausages" one! I don't get grossed out about them eating it, it's normal for lots of animals, so they get the full nutrition out of their food.
Chewbacca has the same habit. Except he doesn't tidy his poos away, he just plops in his nest and leaves it. So every few days I take his cage apart to get to his nest, kick the sod out, and using my little pet shovel, clear out his food store and poops.
He doesn't leave any obvious pee spots. That carefresh is too good :P.

Re: pooing in his bed
This is such a funny thread! I thought it was just us bunny owners that were obsessed with poop but obviously not!

Unfortunately hams like this have just chosen to be difficult!!!
I would make sure you use really absorbant bedding and nesting material. possibly some potty litter underneath his bed.
Maybe try potty training with somewhere really 'attractive' for a ham to go
like a jam jar full of his dirty bedding, possibly in his fave corner (if he has one)
Also sorry for you but it'll be important to clean out his bed every morning too

Does Morris have a little house for his bed or does he make a nest?
What you could try if he has a house, is to turn that into a 'potty' put some sand ot litter in there and dirty sawdust and leave it in the same place. Put another house with fresh bedding in somewhere different for him to sleep in.
If he makes his own nest you could try putting a potty in that area, again with some sand/litter and soiled sawdust, and put his nesting material in a different part of the cage, and see if he gets the message!
Good Luck!
