Post New wheel needed for Syrian Hamster

Hi everyone,

I'm back needing more advice, shocker! My female Syrian hamster is in much need of a new wheel. Penny is currently using a 7.5-inch flying saucer which is clearly way too small for her so I want to do something about this ASAP. Due to her old cage size and height, I couldn't fit anything bigger but having just bought the zoozone 2 I am looking for something that will fit her better. I would say she's on the larger side but having only had male Syrians in the past I'm not sure how big she is for a female. I have measured the corner height to be 33cm so it needs to be under that height and as silent as possible as she does live in my room.

Thanks as always!

I just measured my silent runner and that would be too tall. Not sure what else to suggest. My trixie wheel is stored away so not sure how tall that is - maybe someone else would know.
Savic Orbital was quite quiet once i oiled it (with coconut or olive oil)
I did a video on it. It's quite a squat wheel so I think it is under 33cm

Do you think a 11' wodent wheel would be an okay size for her? I think that comes to just under 30.5cm with the stand which would be ideal.
Just checked trixie and think it's 33cm with stand so too small.
Maybe could do a 10' kaytee silent spinner but might be pushing it with size:/
Will have a look at the orbital now.

Thanks!

The wodent wheel sounds a good size. I would go 11 to 12 inches if you can find one that fits

Is it possible to still get Wodent wheels? If yes, where?

If you get a 10in silent spinner make sure to cover the gaps as they're not a great design.
I'd get this one instead if you want a 10in wheel because it doesn't have any gaps, has a wide running surface and runs quietly. I buy it in a local independent petshop but it is available online. I'm trying to remember what the website is called..

I know someone who had a Syrian in a Zoozone 2 with a 28cm Trixie wheel. It's 32cm top to base, i've just measured it.

Hello!

Maybe try at 11 inch plastic Trixie? If it doesn't fit you can always send it back...

Hello. I am pretty sure the 28cm wood trixie wheel fits - people have had them in maxi duna multys which are the same height. I can't measure mine as I took the base off and it's screwed upside down in the cage.

One that will fit but is an expensive option, is this rodipet one. It's also height adjustable - minimum height 30.5cm - max height 42.5 cm. I had the smaller version for a robo and plastikoted the wheel and cork surface and it lasted really well.

It's 28cm diameter externally and 27cm diameter internally

The 27cm wodent wheel would fit but don't think you can get them any more. They ceased manufacture some time ago.

Here is the 28cm wood trixie wheel in the maxi duna multy - is the cage the same height externally? This says 36cm tall which will be maximum external height.

Ferplast Maxi Duna

I did wheel measurements on this thread some time ago The wood trixie is the same as the Karlie wonderland wheel - 32cm tall

Guide to suitable hamster Wheels

Zooplus listing here says 32cm tall as well. Out of stock but on Amazon I think. I am pretty sure that fits as it was the only wheel that fitted in my travel cage which is 35cm tall (externally) but quite a bit lower inside as has a hump in the base which isn't flat.

I think the Zoozone lid slopes more than the maxi duna which has a more squared off upright lid - so the maximum height area may need to sit forward a bit.

The rodipet one would be ideal but SO expensive!

I've just measured my Trixie wooden wheel as 31.6cm so it should fit.

It's also one of the quietest wheels.
