Default New girl in the house

Our new syrian girl arriwed yesterday. The previous owners told me that she was scared, she bites and hides. I`m not home now, but my boyfriend is, and he told me that she is qurious and bites the bars sometimes. She does not hide.

She do live in a savic hamster heaven now and I think I might should upgrade her cage.

I`ve heard that syrian girsl are mot active then the boys. Do you agree?

I have never had a male syrian, but my female syrian is pretty active. She might be biting the bars because she is stressed. Does she have any hides and any chews? Does she have a wheel? How much bedding does she have? Has she bewn around children before? That might be the reason she's scared and she bites.Make sure her water bottle is working. She might be biting the bars because she wants attention. When you get home, try to tame her. She might just need some time to adjust and she might just have been poorly treated. You never know and it's not like her old owner is going to tell you about that.

Syrian girls can be much more active and need a lot of space but I would give her some settling in time first. Plenty of to chew and rip up (toilet roll inner tubes etc but slit them down the side so she doesn’t get stuck. Scatter feed food maybe. If you do upgrade her you might want to think about a tank style diy cage like the Linmon cage - or a detolf.

I have bought ferplast sin guinea pig house to her. But have issues with finding a good wheel. She have a wheel in her cage, but it make noice.

You surely good look for a wheel online. I know silent spinners are good. For the toys you should really get any kind of toys. Chew toys, puzzle toys, hides, tunnels, bendy bridges ect. Different toys so she has alot of choice.

I would strongly advise against the Silent Spinners actually. They have a design flaw that makes them capable of coming apart and if they come apart even a little that can lead to injury from trapped toes and such(this also applies to knockoff versions). They also don't stay silent if they're even silent when first purchased, if they even run at all!

A much better wheel option is the Silent Runner - they're significantly higher quality, stay silent, and last a very long time. The 12 inch Silent Runner is an excellent wheel and is the perfect choice for any Syrian hamster.

Two days ago she did escape from her cage. So I do look for a new cage, and toys for her.
