Default Is this a suitable water dish?

I've been having trouble with my bottle falling down due to the velcro used to attach it to the tank failing. The actual velcro bit is fine it's the sticky side that wont stick to the glass very well. Due to this I need to put some type of water dish in and I'm wondering if this egg cup I've put in seems alright?
It's just shy of 2 and a half inches tall but not as deep on the inside. Just wondering if it could be too tall?
Also has anyone switched from bottle to dish and had any problems? Or do the hamsters always adapt?

Thank you guys

I just recently switched from bottle to bowl, and my hamster adapted fine. Do you have a syrian or a dwarf? If you have a syrian I think that would be ok, but if you have a dwarf, I'd be concerned that they couldn't reach up high enough to get at the water.

I think it is a bit too tall, something more like this tea light holder from Asda might be better to use, you could also put a small pebble inside it.

If you use velcro, you need the industrial strength one, was that they type you used?

Twinkle my Syrian doesn't like water bowls at all, he won;t go near them. He has two bottles instead.

I think it is good to always give them the option, 1 bottle and 1 bowl and see which they use/prefer.

Thanks guys! Going to look into getting a tealight holder. That's such a good idea, I never would have thought of that.
I'll keep the egg cup in until I get the tealight holder, see if he takes to it at all but have managed to jimmy his bottle up for the time being.
I'm gonna try find better velcro so he can have a choice

If you have a dwarf you can make a bottle stand from a small plastic bottle and put a 75ml bottle in. I weigh it down with glass marbles inside.
All my hamsters have a bottle and a bowl. I also use glass tealights, i got them in charity shops.

Velcro is a nightmare, I had one ham just chewed it to bits, cue a panic about a bowel obstruction. Never again!

I use a bottle and a bowl for both mine now, they use them interchangeably. I'm using one of the little ceramic food bowls sold for hamsters atm but a short ramekin would do as well. I have a couple of M&S creme brulee glass pots that are basically the same thing. Plus, get dessert.

I use these cubes as water bottle holders. They only fit the Savic bottles, but you can get them on Amazon. Just remember to throw away the very dangerous fluff inside the cube.

I think most hamsters adapt to a bowl easily but it's always a good idea to have a bottle as backup in case it gets filled with bedding.

Thank you for all the replies. It's good to have these things in case of emergency. I reckon I'll try just about all of them and see what's mine and the wee ones favourite!
